Hi,
I'm trying to import an older DP sequence into my new DP session template and retain all the MIDI regions, meter changes, tempo map, and markers of the original. I'm following the reference manual and going into the chunks window, selecting the sequence, and choosing Edit-->save as clipping to a clippings window I've created. When I open my template and drag the clipping into the track overview I get all the MIDI regions and meter changes, but no markers, tempo settings, nor is there any name for MIDI regions to indicate which track names they used to have. Is there a way to import all of these things into a new session via clippings, and is there a way to import the original MIDI tracks to add to my template (not just replace my existing tracks) so i can still reference which track names they belong to from the original session?
Using DP 5.13
Thanks!

Re: Importing an Entire Sequence as a clipping
I should clarify that all I really want to do is to be able to know where the original MIDI regions went, without having to take a snapshot of the original session and drag all the regions to appropriate tracks by sight comparison in the new session. In Logic, for example, all recorded MIDI regions are given their own names (based on the track name) so if you move them to a completely new session you still have the region names embedded on the regions themselves for easy reference. Is there a way to do similar in DP? As it is the regions move in to the new session and assume the name of whatever random tracks they end up on which makes it a guessing game where they need to be moved to.
As for markers, I figured out that by unlocking them in the original session they transfer perfectly with the rest of the sequence.
Thanks.

.
ALL the conductor track data will appear on the clipping as long as you did select it as part of your time range selection, along with any other tracks you selected. It does not matter if the markers are locked or unlocked. They will appear if you select the conductor track FOR THE SELECTED time range lenght.
As for MIDI region names... there are none. At least not in DP 4.61. This is something I've ALWAYS wanted, but I suppose MOTU has other priorities to add to DP first. I still keep my fingers crossed, though.
You can also load a chunk from your new session, and include or exclude elements as needed. But I'd stick to clippings. They are awesome. They will also include any plug ins you might have in any selected track. So, to answer your question: make sure you did select the conductor track when you saved the clipping, and that whatever elements you want to include are not hidden by the view filter.
Try it, and let us know.

Re: Importing an Entire Sequence as a clipping
Can you clarify this? In the ref manual it says to save the entire sequence as a clipping by going to chunks window -->select sequence name-->edit menu-->copy to clipping window. This saves all sequence data (MIDI regions, and conductor track data) as a clipping. And this works fine for me.
But you're saying there is a way to also copy certain tracks (along with the MIDI regions) into that same clipping? Can you explain how to do that please? If I'm understanding this correctly, this would bring the actual tracks (not just MIDI regions from those tracks) into my new session without disturbing the new session's existing track layout?
Thanks.

Just do a time range selection in the TO. After you have the range of time you want included in the clipping, select the tracks you wish to be included.ongbundt wrote:Can you clarify this? Suppose you have a sequence with many tracks. Then you decide you would like to have available only a few of them in any DP session, like some kind of template that you can add to any DP session. Say you want to have measures 5 to 10 by 3 MIDI tracks, 3 aux tracks, and 6 audio tracks. All you need to do is select those tracks in the track overview window for that range of time. Then you go to Edit>Copy as a clipping. That's all.
Then, you can add this clipping to any other DP session. The tracks will be added to whatever you already have, right there in the chunk where you drag the clipping to. Even the conductor track, if you saved it along in the clipping. The new tracks will contain the word "copy" added to the original names. Everything will be in place, including any MIDI and audio SBs, appearing at the exact location relative to the time range selection you originally saved the clipping.
Is this what you mean? I've never done the clippings the way you describe ("save the entire sequence as a clipping by going to chunks window -->select sequence name-->edit menu-->copy to clipping window").
