I've got the exact same issue, with an intel mac 2.8 laptop, and an 828 mkII.

the music comes out fine, i want mutiple speakers on the outputs and need to get in there to balance output volumes.

tried using all firewire types, direct or thru a pcmcia card etc. updated everything. it's a bit bollox.
