Taking A Poll - 44.1kHz or 48kHz sessions?

Post by cbergm7210 »

I saw something on a thread that gave me pause, so I figure I'd ask.

What do you guys do the majority of your sessions at? 44.1kHz, 48kHz or other? And why?

Thanks for your vote. :)

48 here.

Sounds better to my ears.

44.1 on everything now, I used to go 48, but honestly I can not hear a difference.

44.1 always, I can't hear the difference either, maybe an age thing.

48k for film/TV/video work. 44.1k for CD projects.
I just try and stick to the format that it's going to end up as. Can't hear any quality difference between the two.

Same here, 48k for film/TV/video work. 44.1k for CD projects. Easier to exchange stuff with the post houses and the mastering studio.

I tend to agree with Mr. Clifford and Groove. I think whatever you might gain by going to 48K will be lost in the SRC. So if your final format is 44.1K stick with it, and the same goes for 48K.

well, for most sources it won't matter so much, but things like celtic harp benefit greatly in detail and smoothness by using 96k... but i can't run even one track at 96k on my current computer, so it's a moot point for now (my 96k tracks are all by way of the alesis masterlink as my initial analog to digital converter, before i had a computer, and it may just be that their particular converters shone at 96k).

will be interested if anyone else recording detailed acoustic stuff with complex resonance patterns, chooses 96k.

but i guess that needs to be a separate poll, as this one is just for 44.1 vs. 48 :-).

Of course, if you are making a Music DVD with cool surround sound, you have to do it in 48k.
