Peak Pro vs. Peak LE

Post by nick danger »

I just found an old copy of Peak 4 LE that I'd misplaced several years ago. I never really used it, so looking forward to playing with it and learning what it can do.

I'm probably going to upgrade to the newest version soon. Would it be money well spent to upgrade to Peak Pro 6 instead of Peak 6 LE-- there's about a $150 difference.

It depends on your needs. The BIAS website has a chart showing the differences between the versions. That chart will answer your question better than any of us could.

I upgraded to Pro a year or so ago, during a promotional. There's no looking back, but now I forget what was "missing" before. That's why you need to look at their chart, and determine the best fit based on your own needs. It's pretty simple.

I also bought WaveEditor during its promotional for well under $100, as it includes iZotope's SRC and dithering, which many pros consider best in class at this point (borne out by a third-party comparison site; although the caveat is that "it depends" on criteria, as POW-r dithering and BIAS SRC win some tests).

One of the nice things about Peak is that it launches much quicker than DP as it does dynamic plug-in validation. WaveEditor crashed after several hours of trying to validate plug-ins, so my next try will also take several hours. The difference between a professional program and a "questionbable" newbie program.

Anyway, I like to use Peak for testing out plug-ins before launching DP. I can try the VST and AU versions both, as Peak supports both formats (though VST is less robust overall). As its footprint is also smaller, it can serve as a nice VST/AU host for trying out demos to evaluate before buying.
