Recording the whole band with motu ultralite?
Hey people, I was wandering what could be the best option for me to record my band . I use motu ultralite , but i don't have much experience with recording multiple channels simultaneously. I'm kind of new to this whole recording bussines. Thanks.

Simple question. Answer not so simple. Many, many books have been written on the subject, but in brief, you will need a mixer or stand-alone mic pres if you want to record more than a stereo pair of mics simultaneously. Something like a Mackie 1604 would be fine, where you have access to individual channel outputs that you will run into the Ultarlight's line ins. If you have a mixer with submasters, you could use additional mics if you don't mind submixing before heading into your DAW. Most Keyboards can be recorded as MIDI tracks, audio to be recorded at a later time in a separate pass, and guitars can go direct into the Ultralight thru Line 6 Pods or similar simulators if mics are in short supply. In DP, set up input bundles for the Ultralight inputs and assign each to a separate track. Use Grouping in DP to allow you to change to a new take simultaneously on all tracks with a click of the mouse. Press record. Perform the song. Collect royalties. Easy as pie... who needs all those books anyway?
Monitoring may be one of the most challenging aspects of your production, as you need enough headphones and headphone amps to get all the performers in the groove. Often, different musicians need to hear different mixes, which can be set up using sends in DP and the multiple busses available in Cuemix.
Don't forget the option of tracking in a pro studio, where quality equipment, a good-sounding tracking room and know-how are available, then bringing the tracks home for overdubs, editing and mixing. Have fun!

Thank you very much for your reply. I'll consider all of the available options. I have my own practice room, so I was hoping of doing as much as I can by myself. Thanks again!

I say jump in and push record! Yes, there are many details in the recording process, but each person does it differently anyway. So, follow HC's instructions (or as many as you need/want to) and get after it. Post with more details about your setup- Computer, OS, gear, mics, and we'll try and help as much as possible over the internet.
