Mach 5 in Logic Express 8?

Post by daboosh »

I just picked up Logic Express 8 and was wondering...
How can I import/use Mach 5 V2 in Logic?
It did the "scan" of my drives when I installed, but I don't see it.

Thanks in advance.

If you installed the MAS version of MachFive 2, you need to reinstall, choose Custom Install, and install the Audio Units version. Logic Express doesn't support MAS (MOTU Audio System).

I believe I did install the AU version and NOT mas. I've been using M5 in Protools for years.
Is there an easy way to check? Are there different folders in M5 for the different plug versions?
I guess I'm typing out loud and being lazy since I'm not at my computer!
I will check.

Thanks for the post.

Sorry that wasn't right. I tried the obvious/easy answer first. I'm not in front of DP either right now. :(

OK. Quite possibly, I only installed the RTAS of both Mach5 and I also have Ethno. That's what's showing up in my Protools Plug in folder.
Now my questions are:

1. If I do a custom (re)install of Mach 5, only loading AU version, will it change anything in my Protools setup?

2. After new install, how do I "re-scan" so Logic sees it?

I haven't felt like such a "newbie" in a while! ha!

I'm trying to do this the "lazy" way without firing up my studio computer... LOL....

If you check in ./Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/ and don't see a MachFive component, then you don't have the AU version installed.

So to use in Logic, just run the installer again and choose Custom Install and only select the "Audio Unit" option. It shouldn't affect your other installs. Logic will automatically recognize that a new AU plug has been installed and scan it on next Launch. HTH.

OK.
I do have M5 listed as AU in the "components" folder, yet there is only "HAL, MAS, VST" folders listed under "components" folder?
Shouldn't there be a "AU" folder also, and for that matter a RTAS? But, it's been working as RTAS in PT?

I must be missing something simple! I usually install everything (to be on the safe side) when installing a new plug. I'm assuming I did the same here, and it is there.

???

James, thanks for the help, and I certainly don't mind the "off the top of your head" approach!
OT - I would also like to commend you on your website. NICE! Can't wait to afford a designer for myself!

Hmmm... actually there is no "AU" folder. "Components" is the folder where the AU plug-in should go. That's why they're named with ".component" at the end. You should have a folder that looks like "MachFive2.component" or something similar in that folder. Also the "HAL, MAS, VST" folders should be inside the "./Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/" folder alongside with the "Components" folder.

Hmmm... I'm somewhat stumped. Hopefully someone else can join in here and offer up some better ideas.

That is exactly the case.

I will do another custom install, per your instruction, just for spits and giggles, too see what happens.
Maybe Logic will see it this time.

Thanks again for the direction.
