Great idea. A downside might be the extra traffic for the tech support guys. But heck, it's a great reverb. At this point, I'd consider buying the AU for use in DP 5.13...

MOTU would surely have to sort the user-IR/preset handling out first, IMHO. Ideally, I'd love to see the ability to add an entire IR-folder hierarchy to the preset menu; current plug-window settings would naturally apply.

Mac OSX AU Matrix Reverb. Better than free, it's built-in.

banjoshark wrote:Thanks for the quick reply, and I'm glad I asked-- I do have a PPC and am running Leopard. RAM will be 4.0 soon. As you indicate, maybe waiting for DP's next round of fixes could be smart.

So it sounds like most of you feel that Proverb basically competes well with Altiverb...?

Or if not, what do you think you have to spend to basically sound better than what comes with DP? I know Altiverb falls in the $500 range, and I haven't been able to A/B the included reverbs with units like the Yamahas or Lexicons in the $200-400 range, but these are all kind of what I'm looking at right now... I just don't have a great sense of how they stack up to each other.
Well... the old axiom "you get what you pay for" still applies. Altiverb, I feel is still the gold standard of convolution reverb plugs-- which only makes sense as they have been doing this longer than anyone. I think it's probably better sounding than ProVerb. For me personally, it was Altiverb that finally convinced me to ditch my hardware mixer and start mixing ITB, because up to that time I hadn't heard any plug-in reverbs that really floated my boat.

The other factor though is that because you have already installed Leopard on your PPC machine, you could be in for some rough sailing depending on what plug-ins you have. I can tell you that KontaktPlayer 2 does not work in DP6 if you're using a PPC/Leopard machine. Other plugs have issues. FM7 and also FM8 come up with blank white interfaces... although someone posted a fix on this forum involving changing monitor resolutions or something. If I'd known that, maybe I'd have stayed with Leopard instead of downgrading to Tiger, however I would have had to buy an upgrade to Kontakt 3 in order to get my VI ONE virtual instrument to work and any other instrument for KontaktPlayer. But at the time, I didn't see a solution to FM7 and FM8 and I was tired of throwing money at the problem.

I do miss much of the functionality of Leopard. If you're not using any of the Native Instruments plug-ins I mentioned, then you might be fine. Also keep in mind, if you install DP6 it will update some of the files that DP5 depends on and if you decide you want to go back to DP5, it's best to completely re-install it.

I sure hope some of brain trust around here can correct me or expand on this, as I don't claim to be the last word on this stuff by any means.

I know a few people have multiple boot partitions for DP 5 and DP 6. I use both and don't see many problems in switching back and forth while still booted in OS X.5.6. FWIW, I did loose my NI plugs, but they aren't all that critical for me at the moment.

Thank you Magilla; I do my best. Siggy refused to take much of my wisdom on board though. I suspect it has something to do with his childhood, poor sod.

Proverb is pretty darn good, and that's coming from huge Altiverb fan.

You might want to take a look at Ray Space-- Shareware for $90.
http://www.visoracle.com/download/freew ... /bmdf.html

Others-- prices and quality preferences notwithstanding:

Aether, $395
ADverb, $89 (plate simulator)
ArtsAcoustic Reverb, $270 (est)
SIR2, est. $200
Quantum FX, $300
TimeVerb, free
CSR, $399 list
MDEX, $249
KR Reverb FS, free
LA Convolver, free
IR1A Convolver, $49
Mod8 Multi FX, $45
BlueVerb, $149
Breverb, $399
PSP EasyVerb, $69
PSP PianoVerb, free
Fusion Field, $189 (est)
Freeverb, free
Springverb, $99
Digital Reverb 4081L, $149
Sonnox Reverb, $300 (est)
Verbiage, $69
Artillery, $200 (est)
FilterBank3, $79
Uhbik bundle, $199
Refletc, $268
Masterverb, $200 (est)
Freedom, $349
Origami, $135 (est)
URS Reverb bundle, $199
WaveArts Masterverb, $199 (free demo available) http://wavearts.com/products/

I concur that the best, free-est reverb for DP is Proverb. WaveArts, Sonnox, URS,and Breverb are certainly well worth looking at. One of the Convolvers might even do the trick.

Hey Frodo, the UHbik bundle (eight superb plug-ins with further additions on the way) is just $149 until the end of January by way of an introductory offer. Really yummy stuff!

I don't buy from Audioease so over the Christmas I picked up all three System 6000 Powercore reverbs. Instant satori...

Kind regards.

A convolution verb is only as good as it's Impulse Responses.
I discovered maybe some of the best at http://www.acousticas.net
Just EMT246 and Lexicon300L
Load them up in any convolution verb.
I think they are even better than Altiverbs IRs....
They're not free but well worth the $49-$59
Perfect for Proverb.
