I've been searching threads on this forum for a couple weeks now while I learn DP and he's routinely snide to people who are new to the forum. There is a very distinct correlation between how he treats someone and how many posts the have. Perhaps your 1100+ posts exclude you from that
Oh gosh... now let ME use the eyeball roll emoticon... okay?
Firstly, I will grant that sometimes MLC can get testy and when I feel he (or for that matter ANYBODY) crosses the line, then I will say something... and not always
publicly. The thing is with forums of any kind, you have to let certain things roll off your back a little. I don't want to have to be called in to break up squabbles and it's been months since I've had to. MLC, could've just used the "Ignore" feature without announcing it to the world to make a point. However, his statement wasn't a pointed personal attack as he didn't specify who he was putting on "ignore" and wasn't all that clear. Glory... I can agree that MLC's post wasn't helpful, but I feel you unnecessarily escalated a situation that would've just calmed itself down. If members here have a problem with something posted here, I would appreciate it if they would PM me (the complainant's identity is confidential) and let me deal with it. I prefer not to have members playing sheriff and calling out other members publicly. MLC's vague implication was answered with your direct and personal attack and to my mind that's not the best way to handle it.
I can already see the, "If you don't like it then leave!" posts being typed. I have no problem with that, and I probably will leave because of it.
I'm not going to say that, and I'm the last word here as to who stays and who goes. Despite the things that may be said on other forums, I've only kick a handful of individuals off this board, and only blatant pirates or the truly obnoxious who often challenged me to do so.
You guys who think that you're helping motu should take a step back and look at what's going on. Seems to be a lot of good people here, but unfortunately there's a few who think they own the place and can treat people with minimal, if any, respect.
Due to your choice of words in the first sentence of the above quote, I feel I must clarify something. I assume you are aware that this board is "not affiliated with or sponsored by MOTU," yes? Because it is stated at the top of each and every page of this forum as a disclaimer. Hence, the purpose of this board is not to necessarily "help MOTU."
(Not that I'm against helping MOTU-- I like MOTU and know and like many of the people there. They're good folks and they're somewhat behind the 8-ball with a release that's had some issues. In as much as I don't want to live in a world where I have to learn Logic, I try to be supportive.) But this board is by and for
users, with the primary purpose of helping
users. As far as the any "bad apples" as you allege, I'll put the users here up against any other non-company-sanctioned forum out there. If it weren't for frequent posts and PMs praising this place for the
overall level of discourse here, I might give your opinion more credence.
I'd not be the first user driven off by the attitude here. When I first heard of the forum via a link at gearslutz I received 2 unsolicited PM's tell me essentially 'Don't bother with that place'. There's been a few threads there and on 2 other forums I frequent where people have a very low opinion of this forum...
Well, having been in existence as long as this forum has, it would be impossible not to have any criticism out there. You also don't know what political axes people posting criticism have to grind. In the past there have been one or two people that I finally had to boot from here for outrageous behavior who have tried to create competing DP Forums (which failed miserably) or ran to other forums to mischaracterize the events that led to their being kicked off and trash this place. No forum is perfect... and as far as "gearslutz" goes, I've seen plenty of posts from people who have a low opinion of that forum. And frankly, I really don't care. There will always be that sort of backbiting.
Perhaps some sage advice:
"The first time someone calls you a horse you punch him on the nose, the second time someone calls you a horse you call him a jerk but the third time someone calls you a horse, well then perhaps it's time to go shopping for a saddle."
I've got no idea where this originated, but if that "someone" is the same person over and over again and 99 other people don't think you're a horse, then you simply ignore the person and go on with your business. Life is too short to do otherwise.
I prefer to quote Lincoln who said:
If I care to listen to every criticism, let alone act on them, then this shop may as well be closed for all other businesses. I have learned to do my best, and if the end result is good then I do not care for any criticism, but if the end result is not good, then even the praise of ten angels would not make the difference.
As far as MOTUNATION goes... to these "critics" on other forums... I'll stand by the "end result" with no apologies.
