Help please!!! WTH is causing error -193???
Can someone please help me to figure out how to open my project? Completely out of the blue, I can no longer open a project I have been working on for days. NOTHING has changed on my system. I keep getting this message when I try to open now:
"An error occurred while reading from the disk. The file XXXX was not leaded. ID = -193"
I just had this project open a couple of hours ago with no problems, whatsoever. I am still running version version 5.13. I have used the search function up here, and am finding almost nothing, except replies to similar posts that simply state "Try entering 193 instead of error 193 and you'll find all kinds of info, etc, etc..."
There don't seem to be any posts up here anymore that cover how to solve problem. Can someone help me? I can't for the life of me understand the absolute randomness of how DP can completely bring my workflow to a dead standstill, project after project. I'm sorry to vent, as I've tried to be as loyal as I can to this platform after all the investment I've made in it, but I have never been so frustrated with a program as I have been with DP in having to deal with file load/save problems on a regular basis, with no apparent explanation.
Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thanks for reading-

Re: Help please!!! WTH is causing error -193???
-193 is "Resource file not found"
This may be good news for you as it is likely an audio file with a bad header. Hopefully.
Start by moving ALL the audio files in the project to a new folder and trying to open the file (I assume DP is starting up correctly?) If you open the file and then get a message that it cannot find the files, point DP to the new folder. It may load correctly. It may not. Simply moving the files might fix the problem. Otherwise you might need to load the files into another program (such as Soundhack or Audio Finder) and re-save them so the header will be rebuilt.
You might also have to remove ALL your plugins (AUs, etc) and run DP. Quit, then move them back into their original locations so DP can reexamine them for defective files. You might have to reload (from the original source) any that don't pass the exam.
Worst case would be that your file is corrupted. It happens and it is not fun. If that is the case and you cannot recover, I don't have a suggestion - except be sure to save backups often and preferably to a different drive. The usual Repair Permissions caveats apply and routine maintenance is always a given. Onyx. Applejack. Disk Repair. Yadda yadda yadda.
If you are in Leopard, Time Machine is your friend! Not just for files, but all those "resources" such as plug-ins, soundfiles, even the DP app itself.
Good luck and happy hunting.

Re: Help please!!! WTH is causing error -193???
Thanks for the reply and all the tips, M-L-C. However, I'm not sure this is going to work yet. Here's what's happening right now:
First of all, it appears that DP will load ok on its own. So, I tried moving all of the audio files for the project to a different location. After doing that, I'm still getting the same error message when I try to load this project. It's not even getting to the point where it's asking me where the audio files are. Does that mean that the project file is corrupted??? I'm scared to hear your answer. This is by no means the first time that DP has somehow corrupted one of my project files with no way to recover (other than backups, of course). I can never predict why or when it will occur.
Is it still worth loading the files into another program to re-save, even if the project file never gets to the point of trying to load them?
Thanks again for your assistance and insight.

I would say the file is probably corrupted. If you want to email it to me I can try to open it here and see what happens. MagicCD (Dave) may also have a better solution - if one exists at all.

Re: Help please!!! WTH is causing error -193???
I’m having a similar problem opening several projects I’ve worked on during the past two years. When I attempt to do so I’m presented an error message: “An error occurred while reading from the disk. The file (file name) was not loaded. ID=-192”
The projects have several things in common:
1) Each began with an older version of DigitalPerformer (2.7.2), but was completed with version 5.11 or 5.12.
2) I always “save as” at the conclusion of each session, so I have dozens of files spanning several months of work, but the same message occurs regardless of which file I attempt to open, from the earliest to the most recent.
3) Each piece was completed after I switched from an older imac to a MacPro. Projects that predate the change seem to be fine.
I run the MacPro using system 10.4.11
I use DP 5.1.2
This is very disconcerting. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Update to to 5.13 for starters
Creativity, some digital stuff and analogue things that go boom. crackle, bits of wood with strings on them that go twang
