Re: UAD 5.2 is here...
Awesome!! I recommend the Little Labs IBP. I have the hardware version and use it all the time on guitars and drums. I'm looking forward to adding more of them with this plug-in. The pro tools support looks promising too with the delay compensation plug-in. I assume that will work with any delay inducing plug-in within pro tools. I wonder when they plan on releasing the updated "older" plugins so that everything will run on the uad2.

Re: UAD 5.2 is here...
I tried the IBP tonight and to be honest, I was less than impressed. Using it on a 3 mic setup on a drum kit with some kick and snare spot mics, and then a couple of guitar tracks with multiple mics and it was a let down for me... maybe my tracks are already in phase
I was expecting more, not less. maybe I'm doing wrong... On the other hand, the Harrison EQ is fantastic (even if it kills my UADs at 96k..) I haven't heard such a musical EQ come from UA yet (the Neve stuff just didn't roll with me, I have a couple of hardware units ) .. very nicely done. very sweet top end...pulled up the Porcaro preset on the spot snare mic and it was wonderful.. made me take the Transient Designer off of it.. I slammed some mids on a P Bass track DI (had a amp and a UA610 with an 1176 already) and mixed in with the others for a perfect fit with the other tracks. Looks like I'm about to use those vouchers after all...

This is part of 5.2. Everything runs on UAD2 now.daveyboy wrote:I wonder when they plan on releasing the updated "older" plugins so that everything will run on the uad2.
I am very happy with the UA stuff, and am looking forward to trying out the IBP. $50 (after my voucher) for the plug compared to $365 for the hardware is a steal.....assuming the plug does the trick. I have been waiting for this one because I have some phase issues with a 2 mic setup that can't be fixed with the 180 degree switch on the mic pres, so we'll see....
I do have a big complaint though....why in the H E double L do I have to have my production machine connected to the internet to authorize the plugs?!?!? I had to do this when I installed the UAD2 card, but with 5.2, it won't even let you load the auth file into an existing card without being connected to the internet. what a major pain (I don't have internet in my studio space, so I have to lug my MacPro and my cinema display downstairs to get a connection)....PITA. I really wish they would rethink this new scheme.

Re: UAD 5.2 is here...
In using the hardware version I've found that it takes some time. Where I've used it is on a double miked kick. I use an inside kick mic and a yamaha sub kick. As I adjust the IBP I can get more clarity between the 2 mics and take some of the mud out. On 2 miked guitar cabs where the mics are not equal distance I can get them to sound as if they're both right at the same spot. Or, I can just use it as an eq and futz with it until I get the sound I like.mrgkeys wrote:I tried the IBP tonight and to be honest, I was less than impressed. Glad to hear that all my plug-ins are now uad2 compatible. Although, I don't think I'll be able to sell my uad1 cards (been trying to sell 1 of them for a while now).

this might be a way to get some money bqck on the UAD 1 card:
UA is blowing out all their remaining stock of UAD-1's. Surprisingly, they're keeping their voucher deals going at the same time, meaning UAD-1 buyers will receiving the following vouchers:
Project Pak (costs $169) gets $150 in vouchers
Flexi Pak (costs $296) gets $650 in vouchers
Express Pak (costs $254) gets $250 in vouchers
Expert Pak (costs $509) gets $900 in vouchers
Project Pak + Express Pak (costs $423) gets $500 in vouchers
Flexi Pak + Express Pak (costs $550) gets $1000 in vouchers
Project Pak + Expert Pak (costs $678) gets $1300 in vouchers
Flexi Pak + Expert Pak (costs $805) gets $1800 in vouchers
Once the vouchers have been claimed, the cards can be turned around and sold or even traded in to JRR Shop towards UAD-2's.

I love the Harrison EQ. Very musical. I actually have a Harrison 3624 console in my studio which has the 3 band parametric EQ and sounds fantastic.... It's really nice to be able to also use the Harrison 4 band from the 32c. I really love this plug.

Re: UAD 5.2 is here...
I love the uad plugs, and the 2 cards are have soo much more power, but I have one complaint.
I get phase issues when running the uad plugins. Like if a snare track and oh's track are in phase with out any uad plugs, the snare looses all its punch once I load a ua plug onto that track. I usually have to load all the uad plugs I think I'm going to use, and then check my phase (with drums) Its almost like DP doesn't quite get the latency comp right with those plugins.
Does anyone else deal with this, or is it just me.

Wow! I cut my engineering teeth, to a large extent, on a 70's Harrison (32 Channel?). Sweet sounding desk, and one I very-much preferred to the SSL E and G series desks I later trained on. In fact, I'd say it was my all-time favourite.vbassguy wrote:I love the Harrison EQ. Very musical. Re: UAD 5.2 is here...
I am a lucky bugger.... I have spent many years working on Neve, SSL, API's etc. all over Los Angeles.... There is really something special about the Harrison in-line design. When the time came for me to open my own place I invested a great deal of time locating and commissioning this incredible desk. I have never looked back and could not be happier. I must say- UA has done a super jobmonkey man wrote:Wow! I cut my engineering teeth, to a large extent, on a 70's Harrison (32 Channel?). on this emulation. The characteristics and behavior are spot on. It would be cool if UA would continue on with the Harrison emulation and include the rest of the channel strip as the signal path
between the mic pre, eq and summing amps is really where the magic lies.

I just downloaded the authorization file and dragged it to the UAD Meter app. I don't think it phoned home at that point.
