Where Can I Find DP 5.13?

Post by ACMMD »

I've been plodding along on a G4 with DP 4.61 for a few years, and would like to upgrade now that I have a new Mac Pro 2.8 running Leopard. As I read this board, I find there are more than a few problems with DP 6, so I'm thinking I ought to buy DP 5, a more stable system. I don't see that option on MOTU's site, but I'm wondering if there are still copies in someone's inventory? I am not looking for a bootleg copy. any suggestions?

I looked up DP 5.13 on eBay for you; this auction originates in the UK and ends Dec. 14:

I would call Motu on Monday. You can upgrade from 4.6 to 6.01 for $200. and if you ask them I believe they will send you v5 too. Some folks here have mentioned that. I think.

Thanks to both of you. I will call MOTU on Monday and ask about the upgrade that includes 5.13. I wasn't aware of that. If all else fails, I'll buy the on on eBay.

I've think you've got two good suggestions there, perhaps the 2nd a bit better in your situ for the following reasons;
I've done (within the US) a license/program transfer with MOTU (in Mass.) before and I have to say they were *very* helpful and it went very smoothly. I was selling my licensed MachV v.2 to t a guy in Nashville. He, as I, already had an account with MOTU for other products. The day I shipped to him, I phoned MOTU that evening, gave them all of his info and - on the spot - they transferred my MachV license to him. AFAIK, it all went well, he became the registered user of that copy of MachV and he was in the upgrade chain for it.
Now, the problem with the eBay offering - though it *looks* perfectly legit - is that the seller and you would likely have to deal with the British distributor regarding registering you as the new licensed owner, *then* you'd have to (attempt to) xfer your registration from Britian to Massachusetts, and then you'd finally be in the support/upgrade chain. Many European distributors are not *nearly* as "cooperative" with licensing switches as MOTU is. Tried to do a couple when I lived over there....it can get "sticky".
So all things considered, if you *can* get MOTU to give you a copy of v.5 when you purchase the v.6 upgrade, that definitely seems the way to go. Only caveat would be to ask MOTU to give (or sell) you a manual for v.5, if they still have any.

good luck with it

I called MOTU this morning and ordered the DP 6 upgrade. I asked the gal (FYI: very helpful and courteous) if it came with the 5.13 software, and she said no, but she could include it. So there you go. Another problem solved via the sage wisdom on this board. Thanks to all who responded!

Ripper! Good to know that at least we can request earlier versions with our upgrades. I wonder how far back they'd be willing to go?

I was just curious, but I do still have unfinished 2.7 projects that I'd prefer not to assume will all load up great in DP 6 or 7, so I guess it'd be nice to know. I'm pretty sure there are a few folks here on the board who also have 2.7 or even earlier projects that aren't finished.

I supposed you still have 2.7, but isn't the real problem whether you have a Mac that will run it?

I have 5.13 and 6.01. Neither of them work (5.13 won't authorise even though I put in the original CD and type in my serial number and 6.01 falls over a lot) on my MacPro (10.5.5 10 gigs of RAM) so I'm more than willing to get shot of them if MOTU say that's OK. Just suggest a reasonable price and don't forget the shipping costs (I live in Italy and there are two heavy manuals).

I'm not sure I'll be doing you any favours but I would like to cut my losses.

Ha! Of course, Baysey; I'd need OS9.

Just a hypothetical anyway. If I were in a fix like this (which is a possibility as I have 2.7s, as I said), I s'pose I'd have to track down an OS9 machine and install it there. Even that wouldn't guarantee anything, but loading and re-saving the projects with as much disabled as possible in terms of tracks and plugs, would obviously be the first move.

This hypothetical is making me nervous. I'm out. LOL

First, you probably need the code on the cover of one of the 5.13 manuals to authorize it rather than whatever you are using as a serial number. If it really doesn't work and you have a serial number, MOTU will help you figure it out. Second, try 10.4.11 with 6.01. I can't get much of anything audio to work well with 10.5.

I've enjoyed my experiences with DP and am looking to purchase a copy for myself, however, everything I've read and everyone I've talked to says that DP6 is way to buggy still, so, ideally, I'm looking for a copy of DP5.

I assume MOTU will send you a copy of 5.13 only if you're upgrading from an even earlier version of DP and not if you're buying DP for the first time, yes (I called them this afternoon and asked them if I they'd send me a copy and they said that they don't do that.

Any advice on where to find 5 would be super helpful.

Thanks!

On the issue of serial numbers and key codes with Performer 5.13 I have this observation.

After installation and opening DP5.13 for the first time I am asked for my name and key code. The key code is found on the inside back cover of the DP5 manual.

No matter how many times I enter the key code and my name the dialogue box always re-appears.

If MOTU were to bring out updates of DP6 which I purchased the day it was released instead of fancy new hardware that is supposed to work with the clumsy DP6 I might not be so aggrieved. As there have been no fresh releases of DP6 in all this time I have to conclude that MOTU is reluctant to support this version and that at some distant time in the future there may be a release of DP7 with all the problems resolved.

But all of this is academic. In reply to the original post I am prepared to abandon my copy of DP 6 (and DP 5) to anyone who can make a reasonable offer and cover the postage costs. We run a school here. Not a Beta testing facility.
