I was having an impossible time getting MF2's Pro Tools plug-in to see MIDI, and I called tech support. Apparently the RTAS plug-in version of MF2 doesn't work with Pro Tools 7.4. I am running MF 2.02 and PT 7.4 (latest CS version).
The wonky work around is to run MF2 in standalone mode, using the optical I/O of the mac into the Digidesign 192 optical I/0 and clock the mac off of the optical input.
Anyone here using MF2 with 7.4?

Re: MachFive 2 and Pro Tools 7.4 Doesn't work?
I'm running it with 7.4.2 on Leopard 10.5.4.
It doesn't work, basically. Tech support are aware of the issue but don't admit to it on their site (or they didn't before my technote, at least).
Although I'm told the issue will be addressed in a future upgrade, they don't seem overly bothered, as far as I can tell. It works fine as an AU in Logic 7 and 8 on the same machine. Ah well.
Don't hold your breath, basically. Although published descriptions of M52 being RTAS compatible may be fraudulent, eh?
I've had similar issues with MOTU over M5 on a previous PC-based PT system. The attitude seemed to be "it's an older system - we don't support it really". Now the attitude seems to be "it's a newer system - we don't support it really". They ooze confidence for us customers...

I'm running M-powered 7.4.2 LE and everything works as it's suppose to. My MIDI keyboard is USB.
Re: MachFive 2 and Pro Tools 7.4 Doesn't work?
I had M5-2 on ProTools HD 7.4xx - crackles, pops and general nonsense. Pretty much unusable. MOTU support were flummoxed, and thought my system too slow (G5 dp1.8 with 4GB RAM). I've now moved to a MacPro dp 2.8 Quad Xeon, running ProTools 8. MachFive won't even make a click now. I am a little disappointed, and I might have a look at Digi's Structure. We shall see.
Any thoughts on what's happening with M5-2 and RTAS?
Cheers,
t

Re: MachFive 2 and Pro Tools 7.4 Doesn't work?
Hey everybody,
I posted this in the PT 8 thread, but it's actually more relevant here.
"Dear friends,
I also am a Pro Tools user that has been experiencing poor MachFive 2 performance in PT 7.4.2. I have a nice machine, an 8-core Mac, and was also told about the workaround of lessening cores to increase performance. While this seems counter-intuitive, dropping from 8 cores to 4 has certainly helped. I have come to understand that MachFive runs a lot of processes in the background and having extra cores to run that code frees up it's real-time functions.
Some have also reported buffer related-errors in MachFive. I have heard (but don't know for a fact) that having more RAM can help in this case as an idle-processor can cause these buffer errors. More RAM enables the processors a steady stream of work and can prevent these errors. I will know more along these lines this week when I up my system RAM from 2GB's to 4GB's in a matched-quad configuration.
I have to agree with what a few posters noted about the long time between updates for Machfive 2. 1 and 1/2 YEARS is a very long time to wait for such an update where one is so obviously needed. Pro Tools may not be what Motu envisions as Mach Five's primary platform, but it is certainly making a bad mistake by not addressing these horrible performance issues. As a first time buyer of this Motu product, they're not doing much to keep me around. I hope that changes."
