Two Words...
Pure Heavan.
This is by far the greatest DAW I’ve ever had. It is a pure pleasure to compose on this rig. Server 2008 is amazing, fast and powerful. There are some twaeks to get Server to run like a desktop and a regisrty twaek to make it treat audio like Vista. It is basically the same code but with out the excess bloat of all the other services. Infact, it installs with minimal componants and then gives you the options of what to add. I’ve only added Desktop experience which gives you a super light Vista desktop experience with out the animations of frills.
I’ve used both XP and Vista and Server is killing them. The Motu 8 pre driver wher blue screening a while ago but the latest release by Motu for vista 32 play very nice. Haven’t had an issue at all. 8 pre rocks and sounds great!

key difference between 32-bit and 64-bit computing with Windows XP is that the 64-bit version can use more system memory. Windows XP Professional x64 Edition supports up to 128 gigabytes (GB) of RAM while xp32 supports 3.5 GB (cough)

Re: Windows Server 2008 & Motu 8pre!
I haven’t had any issues with Vista with a good clean install and disabling of a few services, no more than you’d do in XP.
I haven’t played around with X64 because I’m using Nuendo 3.2 and it won’t work on on X64. But since I use a lot of orchestral Libraries for scoring I have a tims set up older machines as Fxteleport slaves and run them as audio over ethernet. Which works wonderfully and also runs fine in Vista.
My install of interprise 2008 can also see 128g ram because of the PAE (Phyiscal Address Extension)
that is inherent in Server OS’s that are 32bit.
So far this thing is an animal, it’s out performing any install of XP install I’ve used in the past
My plug in’s are running fine as can be, a lot of East West, Ikmultimedia, Spectrasonics, Rob Papin, ZeroG and Wizo ect.
I agree that just like XP the OS will get better as far as Vista, or maybe it’ll be another Windows ME thing that comes and goes? MS does that every few OS’s. Windows 7 is due for 2009 I think.\
But Server 2008 get’s a big thumbs up, highly recommended

If you have a real nuendo licence there is a cheap ugrade to nuendo 4.... (runs native in x64)
-wrong, Enterprise has a max of PAE -64 gig.My install of interprise 2008 can also see 128g ram because of the PAE (Phyiscal Address Extension)

Wiki;
physical address size is increased from 32 bits to 36 bits. This increases maximum physical memory size from 4 Gib to 64 GiB. The 32-bit size of virtual address is not changed, so regular application software continues to use instructions with 32-bit addresses and (in a flat memory model) is limited to 4 gigabytes (GiB). The operating system uses page tables to map this 4 GiB address space onto the 64 GiB of total memory. end Wiki.
Cubase 4.5.2 are written in 64 bit code native. Dude i tell yu it runs so much better then sx3
