If you ask me: One cant´t go wrong with Genelec.. I use 1031 and I used the big babies too.. Pure and great reference and 100% right for my ears, mixes and recordings.
Once Genelec, always Genelec... Go buy those babies if you got the money and needs. They are worth it.
BTW The second hand market price is stable and always high!

I bought a pair of the near-field Genelec 1029A's (actives) a few years ago based on the recommendations of another similar studio that I work with a lot.

I figured since he was used to mixing with his 1029A's that our mixes would be similar on projects that we were collaborating on.

I'm pleased with them...I do find them a little "bright" for my ears, but I do cross reference with NS-10's and a cheapo pair of Radio Shack minis. (I do have tinnitus and a little bit of high frequency distortion in these pair of ears, so I'm trying to take that into account with this post, as well.)

I left the built in EQ curves alone (Bass and Treble Tilt), BTW, so I'm listening just as they came from the pro audio store...down the road I may adjust the frequency response a bit to see if reducing the high end helps or hurts the final mixes.

My 2¢!

FWIW. The 1029 are the smalest Genelec monitors in Genelecs product line. I wouldn´t rely on mixing serious stuff on just these without a good calibrated sub as they are pure nearfields.
The Genelec S30D (3-way) monitors however, are much bigger and full range.

I am a devoted Genelec fan going on 17-8 years. I have used 1031A's almost exclusively for mixing, and now have a pair in my home studio, along with 6 1029s and a sub for surround work.

Why 6? I have actually managed to arrange 2 monitors, one above and one below my plasma screen to give a solid centre image - it was bugging me that the centre channel was coming from below the screen.

I considered the 8000 series recently - they sound awesome, but having a rear-firing bass port played havoc with the bass response in my room.

Those S30D monitors look rather good - I used some similar looking 3 ways from Genelec way back - one of their first designs with the ribbon tweeter, and they were wonderful

Cheers

I'm guessing you're not going to actually bid on these right? Unless you got someone who will pick them up for you in Massachsetts as the seller says he/she won't ship them. :(

I just worked with a pair of 1029As last weekend while cutting drums tracks for my friends' band. Great monitors.

I used 1031s for a while, but always thought the high-end was a little "funky"...never quite got used the them & found myself always going back the NS-10s. But It's a taste thing really. I prefer Dynaudio to Genelec.

I'm using 8040's and 1031's and they are just right. Right now i'm mixing in studio that has pair of Quested VS2108 and they are not bad at all. They sound very much like the genelecs i mainly use.
