I am thinking of running the outputs from my turntables (RCA Male) directly into the ins of my MOTU Ultralite to use Deckadance, and I'm trying to figure out whether I will need two seperate RCA female to 1/4" male cables/adapters for each turntable, or if I can get away with using a Y cable (Turntable is dual RCA male which I will connect to dual female RCA to one 1/4" male Y cable).
Will one Ultralite input accept a stereo signal, or will I have to use a pair of inputs for each turntable?
Cables and Ultralite inputs?

Re: Cables and Ultralite inputs?
First, the UltraLite analog inputs are all mono. The turntable output is stereo. It will sound strange if you use an adapter to connect the L/R outputs from the turntable to single mono analog input. Second, the turntables require a phono pre-amp. Basically, records are cut with some frequencies attenuated (according to the RIAA's specifications) so that the grooves can be placed closer together, resulting in longer playing time. The frequencies are boosted to their normal levels by a phono pre-amp. If you connect the turntable outputs to a pair of UltraLite analog inputs without a phono pre-amp in-line then, again, it will sound strange.

Re: Cables and Ultralite inputs?
Thanks for the reply.
I agree that it would sound strange if I were to play actual music from vinyl directly through to output.
However, the reason I asked this question was to use my MOTU Ultralite to track (listen for the signal of) timecoded vinyl to control MP3's playing from my computer.
Your answer was very helpful. I will make sure that each RCA from the stereo pair coming out of the turntable has its own cable, resulting in using input pairs on the Ultralite.

Re: Cables and Ultralite inputs?
I see. If it's a timecode record, then I think it depends on the particular record whether you need a phono pre-amp. I guess you can just test it with a direct connection from the turntable outputs to the UltraLite inputs. If it doesn't seem to work well, then connect the turntable to your DJ mixer (which has phono pre-amps built in) and connect it's outputs to the UltraLite inputs.
