Re: DP 6 GUI - What do you think of it?
Hmm.. having made my first mix attempt with DP 6, I will say there's definitely somewhat of a learning curve for me. I'm still trying to get used to the new style of snapshot automation (I'm not sure whether that changed in 5 or 6), and like others have mentioned, I'm struggling a bit with the track selector for the mixing board window. Mix session 2's on Monday, maybe it'll sink in more then...

Re: DP 6 GUI - What do you think of it?
I spent 15 minutes trying to find Nudge setting. On one hand RTFM, easy, on the other of course the key command will no longer work as it is in a completely different place!
It's like a new program altogeher...
Found my solution to the eye burnout problem of DP6 superwhite- go to Sys Prefs, Universal Access control panel, set the display to white on black. Voila, I can see now!!!

You don't even have to open System Preferences. Just use the following key-command: Command>Option>Control>8.screensound wrote:Found my solution to the eye burnout problem of DP6 superwhite- go to Sys Prefs, Universal Access control panel, set the display to white on black.

Re: DP 6 GUI - What do you think of it?
There's a delicate balance between a new look and making users feel comfortable with the locations of everything. The new look itself is cool IMHO but to shift around the locations of buttons into a new place seems to be change for change's sake. There's not a continuity in some things, for example the slid out trays in control panel or where the metronome button is or selecting regions to chunk bounds... moved around, or not there at all... (Haven't found those trays yet). So if I am using say DP 4.6 on my old mac I'll have to remember where some things are moved. New look, great, but locations of things, leave them alone, they were fine where they were. Switching between DP 6 and earlier versions will feel irritating. I'd say 80% of the interface has continuity from previous versions but 20% is in new places. But that's my first impression, I've only used it for like an hour! The tabs are cool... that has continuity, not relating to DP but to the overall evolution of graphic interfaces in general. I'm sure as time passes I'll love the interface but right now, I am envisioning Motu "taking back" their idea and making it more similar to previous versions.

Re: DP 6 GUI - What do you think of it?
I made my best effort giving `dp6 a try, but today, I decided to quit. Starting form the really irritating fact that they moved important things and even deleted buttons that I've been using since 1994!
But today, after 2 weeks using it, I said enough! I spent a whole morning fixing a vocal with the pitch tuning function of DP, and after 2 hours, I decided to hear my work from the beginning, then, some of my fixes, suddenly disappeared, I thought, hey maybe I forgot to fix those parts, but then I released that no, they disappeared, so I started again! I spent another hour making comps, pitch and crossfading. Then I merged all my work, because another engineer would mix this song. After the merge, I listened to the file and it was a JOKE, full of glitches, even the timing of some parts were wrong, really weird, so I said enough, I'm going back to DP5.13. I really feel bad about this because DP is going backwards, there's no reason for me to be in DP6, I don't use their new reverb, I don't use their new compressor and even the look is not the best IMHO,
Not to mention the embarrassing moments that I had spent with the artists in front of me while we are recording vocals and then DP6 freezes like a minute and then it let you continue, also all the time, MIDI notes got stucked or I hear tons of flanged notes because something happened with the MIDI that suddenly started to play flanged notes just when I record my final mix to disk.
I QUIT.
Best regards.

Re: DP 6 GUI - What do you think of it?
They certainly have spent a lot of time trying to make MOTU.com match the new DP6 look. I think the more time passes the more they accelerate in terms of increasing the number of the upgrade. At the time of version 2.xx for instance they made a lot of improvements and that was ended by version 2.72 if I'm not mistaken. In other words they should have stayed a lot longer improving DP5 since that was only at .13 when they suddenly took a big leap to DP6. That leap didn't correspond at all to the amount of improvements, especially if you compare earlier versions to their upgrades.

Re: DP 6 GUI - What do you think of it?
I can live with the bumpy upgrade, only because I have faith that MOTU will get around to fixing things eventually.
The biggest problem is same as before - we don't really know what they are fixing, or when we might expect the next update.
I hate that we have to wait months on end with no idea, then suddenly an update appears out of thin air one day. Then it may
or may not fix a specific problem, and if not, we have to wait it out again for months. I still haven't really had the chance to use
DP6 until they sort out certain problems. At this point I'll take the GUI if only they would get the DAE fixed.

I too, Trippy.
There will be a life-changing update sooner or later, and given my extreme patience in the matter, I hope it's soon. I don't do extreme as well as I used to, and 8 years is already well into said territory (still hoping to be able to avoid purchasing 3rd party stuff).
