Well Daniel, after many years in the music industry I think I've garnered some respect among my peers and I know that there is at least some response expected from me on topics wherein I'm considered a bit of an expert in the field. Like Spring, for instance. What a season! I've seen 46 of them, close up. I guess you can say I've been there, done that. And now I must share my wisdom or it may forever be lost in perpetuity.

Indeed. If 'verbs for all seasons are what one requires, this one certainly covers one of them.

I have an amp like that, but it's on my screen. I can't see the box and I don't want to punch my monitor. Is this a bug?

Not sure I agree much with most of the answers here... Screw the 'traditional' uses, who cares? of course, if and when you need to emulate a certain style (i.e. surf music) you use some of its characteristic tools (i.e. spring reverbs.) But well beyond that, a spring reverb has a unique effect on a sound, and when you want that effect you should use a spring reverb, no matter what style... I often find it a very interesting choice on all sources that have little attack transients, and sometimes of course on those that do. It is very resonant, think a cross between a flutter echo and a reverb. I use both the softube plug-in, as well as real replacement reverb tanks that i drive with a headphone amp and return into a mic pre. Those have the advantage you can 'play' or otherwise influence the springs with a feather, a guitar string, your finger, etc. Just don't move when you record the output...

Agreed. I love springs, but I never use them on guitar. I have 4 of them. They just sound cool. What I really want is an old AKG BX10-20.

I've never heard a plugin that really sounds like a spring so I'll have try the softube.
