iLok key no longer recognized after 2.2 upgrade (RESOLVED)
I downloaded the 2.2 update, and installed both mx4 and iLok, but after having done so, my iLok usb key is no longer recognized. Any here any idea what I can do to remedy this or how to determine if my iLok key is damaged?
Thanks very much!

I'd try going to iLok.com and downloading the latest iLok driver from there. I generally use custom install and turn off iLok installation.

Re: iLok key no longer recognized after 2.2 upgrade
that worked great. thank you very much for this wonderful solution.
I used the free EasyFind to delete all iLok/Pace files from my harddrive, installed the new iLok extensions, rebooted and everything worked just like before!
Once again - thanks very much!!

I am happy you found a solution that will help many people (thanks James!) but this is Apple and Motu. This shouldn't happen with an ease-of-use system yuk! Complicated and perhaps stressful until the end when it works.macsterdam wrote:that worked great. thank you very much for this wonderful solution.![]()

Re: iLok key no longer recognized after 2.2 upgrade
I'm sorry, I'd like to just blame it on Apple and MOTU, but in reality Apple has nothing to do with it, and MOTU not that much. Many installers from many different manufacturers include the option to install iLok extensions if it's a plug-in that uses iLok. However, manufacturers don't constantly check the iLok site and check for a newer version and then rebuild their installer every time the iLok extensions are upgraded. Also when you choose a Basic Installation on these plugs it assumes you don't have iLok extensions installed and will sometimes install an older verison over the newer one.MeisterEckhardt wrote:I am happy you found a solution that will help many people (thanks James!) but this is Apple and Motu. The safest, common sense approach-- the approach whereby the user takes responsibility for him or herself-- is to use Custom Install and not install iLok extensions contained in a plug-in installer. You plug in will generally always work just fine. If you want to be sure your iLok extensions are up to date, go to iLok.com.

Thanks James, that was excellent and useful as always. OK I admit I was wrong. What I should've said was Apple = ease of use. That's why they're exceptional. To go against this for any reason is lame... but then again I can see trying to protect one's work and sweat. I apologize for blaming Apple and motu. But if Motu or anyone is going to use this device they should take responsibility for it at some level (I've already got enough mundane stuff to do like back up stuff) and make our experience with iLok _easy like Apple design strategy_ so we can use our geeky minds and energy on other things like creativity... and backing up.
Best,
Meister

Re: iLok key no longer recognized after 2.2 upgrade (RESOLVED)
I still don't think Apple can do much. They can't prohibit people from writing software for their platform or dictate to them how updates are distributed. And 3rd party plug in companies that use iLok would be forced to constantly check for iLok extension updates and then rebuild their installers each time. Perhaps if an installer could link directly to the latest iLok extensions at PACE's website and install those, that might be one way. Until that time, my suggestion is never install iLok extensions that are built in to a plug-in installer, because odds are the extension is not going to be the latest. It's the same if you install software from a replicated CD or DVD. There's a good chance that by the time a CD/DVD is pressed, there will be updates to the software that is on that CD.MeisterEckhardt wrote:Thanks James, that was excellent and useful as always.
