make sure you trash the Au info cache file in the Dp Preference folder and let DP rescan...
UPDATE: I just talked to a WAVES tech and according to him and I quote "there is no way to get a stable DP session without making sure you have Run in realtime mode selected on every WAVES plugin"...
so that is what I am doing now... make sure all WAVES plugins are running in realtime and I'll see if this solves the beachball problem for me...

Rush909. I think that was it!!
I've been getting at least 3 or 4 lock ups an hour. I just made all my Waves plugs run in realtime. Not one lock up in about 2 hours!
Looks like that was the magic cure. (I hope, I hope, I hope....)

It's a bit early to say (5 min), but so far things are better by enabling "Always in real time" on my Waves plugs. I was getting lots of beachball lockups.. like every 20min. Usually from doing something as insignificant as trimming soundbite starts/ends while playing, or moving the playback head without pressing stop first.
But now my processor usage seems to have gone thru the roof... and this is far from being the most fx-intensive project I've ever done.
That's a bit sad... after I've been championing how powerful my MacBook Pro is for audio. Looks like I'm going to need a Mac Pro.
Damn it. More money. I always have twice as much I need to spend on gear as I have cash in the bank from using it. Please tell me there's an end to this!

Instead of doing that, have you tried trashing AU tests and re-validating them? I had the Waves beta in and when I went to the Waves official release DP didn't re-validate. So, I want in, trashed my AU tests and prefs, re-validated and NOW it seems nice and stable... Will report more later....

I'll try re-validating, but I don't think that's it. I just did a complete re-install of Leopard, DP, Nuendo, Waves, Sonalksis, all from scratch.
However, since changing to "always real time" I've run for two hours without a problem. Seems to have fixed it, although I now get big processor spikes all the time. But at least it doesn't crash, losing all my work since the last save (which usually wasn't much, since it would crash every 5-10 minutes. But that meant I was getting no work done at all, because I was constantly force-quitting, relaunching, opening, crashing...)
Deleting a movie out of the project might have helped too... but it was doing this quite a bit with no-movie projects as well. In fact, it used to beachball-and-lock quite a bit in OS 10.4.12 too, when there were quite a few plugs running.
Anyhow, big improvement so far. I'll admit that I don't quite get "preredered effects"... if it's like freezing tracks then that's a lot of rendering going on every time you edit an effect... especially since I make 2-hour-long 32-track recordings.

Re: Beach Ball Hell - DP Keeps Locking Up
I haven't had that problem of DP 5 crashing since I made sure all the Waves plug-ins were set to Run In Realtime.
However... Now that I'm on DP6, it started again. This time I can't find anything that allows me to Run In Realtime.
Is it hidden somewhere?

I can't find anything that says always run in realtime or anything close to that.

Top-left of each plugin window.. In the drop-down menu.. Its not a global option, you have to switch each plugin individually!NealF wrote:I can't find anything that says always run in realtime or anything close to that.

Re:
This ALWAYS happens to me when the project starts getting too big for my computer. Constantly. They are VERY annoying, and there's only so much you can do to reduce the load in your computer.NealF wrote:Also, getting a lot of those windows that tell you something (I've got to watch more closely next time) and give you the choice to dissable, stop or continue the audio. I think the window might have said something about an audio engine error.
You could try:
- Bouncing/printing the tracks that run the heaviest plug-ins.
- Enable the "Mute frees system resources". The caveat here is that any mute automation will be gone until you disable that.
- Try to do do a few sub-mixes to ease your processors (and HD's) work.
Since your machine is a single processor G5, it might just be too much for it. It becomes unstable and clumsy.

Is "Mute frees system resources" in DP 6.01?

Re: Beach Ball Hell - DP Keeps Locking Up
I looked in Preferences, General, Audio Pluggins and couldn't find anything that gives the option to run in real time. Global or otherwise.
Am I looking in the right place?

Wow, guys, if this works, you are all my heroes. I have been in beech ball hell for several months now, since upgrading my waves diamond. holy crap, if "run in realtime is the answer" I would love to buy you a damn drink.
hoping against hope...
wow.
while i'm at it, where is "mute frees system resources?"
is it in 5.13
