I have that problem with my Ultralite mk3, which doesn't have an optical I/O :\

I tried this "fix" just previous to my current working configuration.
Disabling the ADAT I/O on the MOTU's may work for some people as it should, theoretically, also lower the required FW bus bandwidth required. However I would only consider it a band-aid fix at best if it does work. The same problems would likely crop as soon as you tried to daisy chain a second MOTU.

Re: mk3 squeals(again) - possible fix
I have this problem also. I have tried this enabling/disabling ADAT but this problem remains. I'm running my MOTU with my Fujitzu-Siemens laptop Amilo XI 2528 (Intel Dual Core T7500 2.2GHz, 2046MB RAM). I have tried other FW HWs as well but never had this kind of problem before. So I'm quite sure this is not related to my computer but this is related to MOTU hardware. So I would like to hear some explanation from MOTU. I have done Technical inquiery about this from MOTU but so far I haven't got any response.
