plugins recommendations?
hi guys:
I've noticed that the common opinion here is that the plugins included in DP aren't really that useful. so what are ur recommendations for plugins i need to get to produce good mixes? ... or at least what companies make good plugins to use in mixing?

hay there mate,
im sure your going to get a lot of replies on this one, so im gunna say something different, the DP plugins are quite useful...
but my personal favorite 3rd party is PSP www.pspaudioware.com
and most people love and swair by waves
www.waves.com
BUT you dont need a lot of different plugins, just a few tasty ones!!!

Re: plugins recommendations?
The UAD-1 rules. Get two of them, though. The waves stuff is good, but overpriced and they suck as a company. The only thing you really need are compressors and reverbs. Maybe EQ, but I find myself using DP's MW EQ more and more. The UAD-1 covers you on everything, very nicely. Altiverb is the best verb ever, though.
DP6.02, OSX.5.latest on Quad 2.66GHz MacPro w/ 3GB RAM, MOTU 828mkII, UAD-2 Duo, Altiverb, PSP, TriTone, Omnisphere, Komplete 5

Re: plugins recommendations?
there are plenty of bundles out there, but companys tend to throw in a few "filler" plugins IE ones that you wont use much and dont really need!!!
If you like manipulating i recommend PSP effects pack, but as mentioned above, compression and reverb are the 2 main things you need to DP's line up. download demos and check them out, its a very personal thing as to what will suit you
And a UAD-1 is great, you get plugins and DSP to run them on, all at around the cost of a waves pack!!!

Re: plugins recommendations?
WaveArts is running a sale on their plugs. You can get MultiDynamics, TrackPlag, MasterVerb and FinalPlug for $400. Check out their wares:
WaveArts stuff
I dig TrackPlug. Use it a lot. Transparent and CPU friendly. Lot of folk here seem to like MasterVerb.
If you want some color and saturation to your sound, pick up PSP MixPack for an additional $150:
PSP site
I use all of the MixPack. I also use their VintageWarmer (great on drum sends).
Something to mull over.

Re: plugins recommendations?
For me the UAD is indespensible. But also Metric Halo's Channel Strip is also right up there. It's one of my favorite EQs. Hydratone is eeking it's way up there now too. I don't have any use for Waves any more. I have upgraded my Waves plugs from OS9. The UAD has very useful reverbs since they added their EMT Plate reverb.
All the best,

Re: plugins recommendations?
It really depends on what genre your dealing with me thinks.
But UAD-1 is great for comps-yes I got on e. damn just need to get the PL and plate LOL.
Trackplug(demo-that I tried) was very useable..kinda reminded me of the Channelstrip that Henry is pushing
PSP for warming(eek) things up.
But of course the Waves get a mention.. if you can muster the dough.
Pick and choose for your needs. Plenty of folks here to steer you the right way!!

Re: plugins recommendations?
I use the Wave Arts plug-ins.
Great sounding easy - to use - low cpu consumtion -
and decent price as well.
( as someone said they are running a rebate on their
plugs right now until the end of July - try them out )
Cheers: Dixiechicken

Re: plugins recommendations?
As a bundle, it's hard to beat Waves. Platinum bundle will get you some of the finest plugins ever written, and which most pro studios have handy at all times. On the other hand, I'm convinced that "platinum bundle" refers to the cost, not the product. So, if you want the best, Waves is definitely one of the top two, if not the top plugin supplier. If you want the best bang for the buck, Waves may drop a few notches down the ladder. Still, you DO get a lot of plugins in those bundles.

Re: plugins recommendations?
As much as I'm annoyed by Waves, they do make some great plugs, and of any bundle, I use them the most... especially the compressors, most of which are in the RenMaxx bundle. However, the phase linear Masters Bundle is beautiful. Both of these are in the Platinum Bundle, but if you purcahsed them separately you might save some money. Moving right along...
Altiverb is indespensible for verb. I rarely use much else. V5 is just the bomb with all its parameters and the free growing library is fabulous.
For EQ, URS Classic Console EQs are great with the API and Neve emulations, but URS just released the Everything Bundle which has the SSL and the Pultec in various incarnations, and the graphic Neve and API. I use the API EQ more than any other and it sound great! I never use the RenEQ anymore
The other EQs you should check out are Hydratone and Valvetone. Full of color and perfect for the perfect track. Honestly, this is the best plugin EQ I've ever heard, but it is a bit bulky so its my special EQ for featured instruments. VT adds great tube color to a track and helps it gel. I often use it with no EQ settings.
Lastly, the Elemental Audio plugins are nice too. Great bang for the buck. Firium is a beautiful mastering, phase-linear EQ, Equim is a great surgical EQ, and Neodynium is a unique and full featured compressor.
My latest find has been DPs MasterWorks EQ. Squeeky clean and nice, full featured 5 band EQ. I'll be using this one more and more.
