exporting issues
DP5 exporting an AIFF, T-RACKS on the master track. Listening to the mix in DP sounds full and warm. The AIFF export sounds thin. ??? any suggestions...

Re: exporting issues
When you say 'export', do you mean you did a 'Bounce To Disk' or you exported the soundbite from the soundbites window? If it's the latter, then no FX (including the T-Racks on your master fader) would be rendered into the file.
If you select the tracks you wish to bounce, and the length you want to bounce, then perform a 'bounce to disk', the resulting AIFF file should be exactly the same as what you're hearing in DP.

And don't forget that if your working at 24bit you have to use a dither plugin.

Re: exporting issues
Hi,
I'm in the same process my self at the moment. I'm going to send material for an album, track by track, to be mixed by a guy who work in Logic. To make sure that I get the *right* level on all the tracks I asumme I should export them from the soundbites window rather than bounce to disk? Otherwise the tracks will be *to loud* if I bounce them to mono files, right?
Should I just merge every track and export them from the SB window?

Re: exporting issues
-so if i mix to a stereo track in DP and then want to export it as a 16 aiff, you are suggesting that a dither plug in be used- i assume last in the chain.... is that preferable to exporting as a 24bit file and then converting the file to an compressed format mp3 type file in iTunes??kassonica wrote:And don't forget that if your working at 24bit you have to use a dither plugin.
if using DP to Dither..... if i slap a Waves LL-3L across it and export will that dither- or is there a stand alone plug that you recommend??
i don't have a good handle on the dithering issue and whether to just record in 16 bit- or stay in 24 and bump down after mix-
any thoughts??

No, if you're going to convert to an mp3, a 24bit file will give you a slightly higher quality mp3 than by going to 16bit first (according to Bob Katz). Using LAME you can bounce/export directly to mp3 without having to dither.NashvilleJoe wrote: -so if i mix to a stereo track in DP and then want to export it as a 16 aiff, you are suggesting that a dither plug in be used- i assume last in the chain.... is that preferable to exporting as a 24bit file and then converting the file to an compressed format mp3 type file in iTunes??
any plug-in that has a dither function on it will work. DP has the Quan Jr. plug for straight dithering, but there's probably other better ones out there.if using DP to Dither..... if i slap a Waves LL-3L across it and export will that dither- or is there a stand alone plug that you recommend??
Definitely stay in 24 bit the whole way through the process and only dither down to 16 bit as the absolute last stage in the process, just before you burn the mix to CD (which is the only real reason the file would ever need to go down to 16bit).i don't have a good handle on the dithering issue and whether to just record in 16 bit- or stay in 24 and bump down after mix-

Re: exporting issues
thanks for the info- i will try the L.A.M.E for exporting- i have tried a couple of those bounce to disk options- at least in DP 5 and most of them seemed a bit buggy- but i am going to try your advice- i am also curious about the difference between exporting using LAME and exporting and converting with iTunes- i think a good A-B session is in order-Mr_Clifford wrote: Definitely stay in 24 bit the whole way through the process and only dither down to 16 bit as the absolute last stage in the process, just before you burn the mix to CD (which is the only real reason the file would ever need to go down to 16bit).
thanks again for the wisdom!
