Open DP6 Letter
Dear MOTU,
Overall, I am really liking the improvements in DP6. Thanks for a great product. I'm sure you are keeping track of the bugs, I want to register some of mine:
- Lots of crackles in audio, I think it is not playing well with Liquid Mix.
- Burn CD-R using markers as tracks, using the disc image and also going directly to disc; the burn fails, but DP only gives me a 1 second failure notice. Then it spits out the disc as if everything is fine. (The last track doesn't play all the way. The other tracks play fine.)
- I crash when I do this; record, stop, click in the timeline to go back and punch in. (It is really tricky to find the sweet spot to move the timeline playhead. You have to move up and down really slowly until the symbol changes.)
- Audio dropouts in multi-bounce. Again, I think it is Liquid Mix compatibility.
- I'm finding that sometimes it is hard to find the edge of a soundbite, I keep moving the curser around until I get the edge symbol.
WISHLIST:
- I would love to see a window that held all of the FX controls neatly nested together as a grid. You could choose what tracks you wanted in the track list, then the FX controls would fill the area where the board, or tracks, or sequence editors are. This would be much better than the messy FX all over the place, in all of their own windows behind each other chaos. It would be a quick way to make FX racks for looking at and changing settings.
- I love the new multi-bounce. I wish I didn't have to bounce each project the first time to set it up.
I want a multi-bounce that allows me to simply choose:
File format
Folder destination
Projects to bounce.
(It just selects all the tracks and bounces.)

Don't forget that this is not a MOTU board but a private one. You should send your letter directly to MOTU using their customer service Email address if you want it to be read by MOTU.

The issues you raise are very serious if true on all computers but I think you should get substantiating agreement that it's on all machines before I would let it fly at MOTU. I have not tried the bounce to actual c.d. yet. I should give that a try. Agree about the sound bite edge issue.

I sent it to them first, but I thought it could be an interesting thread of discussion here. Maybe some other people could build on the letter.

Use '/' and 'option-/' for much easier soundbite truncation. Hold to temporarily switch, double tap to switch until choosing another tool.angelvonfrankim wrote: - I'm finding that sometimes it is hard to find the edge of a soundbite, I keep moving the curser around until I get the edge symbol.
You may find ' , and . helpful as well

Re: Open DP6 Letter
I don't see any listing of your equipment, drivers, etc. In your letter, MOTU will need to know all of that of course. Maybe you were planning to add that. SO many people post here without a clue of their gear so I'm sure MOTU must get plenty of those as well. Specifics instead of exclamations points is always a good idea
EDIT: Sorry, I wasn't looking at your sig.
Cheers
Phil

Re: Open DP6 Letter
I think MOTU's employees DO read this forum, so it's a good idea to write as if they are listening. I state my mind here, sometimes being critical and other times complimentary, but it's always pretty much what I feel. I think it's no secret that I'm disappointed in the stability of DP6, but I know MOTU, and they will get it fixed... gradually. So, I'm dissatisfied, but certainly not despondent. DP6 is at least here, and we're learning about it. If they'd tried to test everything WE'VE tested for them, it would have taken them another year. A lot of people would be pretty angry after another year of anticipation. And this way we get to have input.

Re: Open DP6 Letter
Hi, I am seeing the bounce to disk issue. It has stopped me in my tracks (pun intended) with DP6. I'm running on an 2.8GHz 8 Core Mac Pro, 6GHz memory, 10.5.4. Beginning of audio is cut off, during the bounce, but virtual instruments are starting immediately. Seems like some kind of issue with the ability to bounce VI's.

BTW, my MOTU techlinks are still unread at motu.com. They must really be busy with bugs or something.

Re: Open DP6 Letter
Sorry ,mates , Im new in DP .
I had problems with DP6 and Liquid Mix -
CPU (playback) overload
and then.... I found solution ! :0)
Do not close plugin GUI !!!
Now I could run as many LM as i want.
And still don't know why
Its all "pre-rendering" ???
I was on Logic 8 and i had no problems with LM and Powercore at all !!!

Re: Open DP6 Letter
Liquid Mix, UAD & Powercore plug-ins need to be set to 'always run in real time' (ie. pre-rendering turned off - not that it can prerender these FX anyway). Once you've set that you can close your FX GUI without any worries. In DP6 you can set it to default to 'real time' and you'll only have to do it once for each plug-in.jhonnie23 wrote:Sorry ,mates , Im new in DP .
