I have traveled a lot with my PowerBook, MOTU 828 and M-Audio Radium
keyboard.
I have just basic small bag for the PowerBook and MOTU 828 that I always
carry myself. If I go to airport it is easy to take it trough the security check and
take it in the plane as a hand luggage. That way there is no ruff handling for those
anywhere during the trip.
I have a hard flight case for the M-Audio Radium and other equipment. ( Not heavy )
The flight case goes to luggage in the airport check-in.
It is good to keep your valuable equipment in your own hands.
I used to carry my Ultralite around in my backpack until i learned the hard way be breaking off the volume knob/on switch...
So then I found this amusing but useful silver zipper case that probably was for some sort of hair care product - it has the word "EDIFIER" embossed on the top. It's padded inside and made of stiff cardboard or plastic covered with fabric. EXACTLY the right size for the ultralite, a FW cable, the AC adapter, an extra sheet of protective foam, and a pair of earplugs.
Now, I don't know where you could find another one of these...

OK - well - forget hair-care. That would have been more fun. It must have been the case for one of these: http://www.modthebox.com/review510_1.shtml
that a college student decided they didn't need anymore
This is actually for wireless devices, but if it is a half rack unit, it will work. It has openings on the front and back. The unit never has to come out of the case. I use this for my wireless mic setup, but it will work for any half rack device.
Mac Pro 2.8 GHz 8 Core 10GB Ram - Imac 2.8 GHz 24in. 4GB Ram - MAC OS X 10.5.2 - Logic 8.0.2 - MOTU 828MK3 & 8Pre - Apogee Duet -Glyph 400GB HD - Euphonix MC Control - UA Twin-Finity Pre - Neuman TLM-103, Ultrasone Proline 750 Headphones, Ozone 3 for mastering, Various synths and plugs.
It's a surprisingly unique set of dimensions if you want something that hugs the edges and doesn't take too much extra room. I fly for gigs and only take a backpack so I need something that is lightly protective but tightly fitted for my Ultralite mk 5 as the space limitations are an issue for carry on.
Here are some options that you can buy as of April 2025:
Cheap and cheerful - not much protection but will stop scratches etc in the bag. My bag is pretty padded so I could get away with this. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C4KKH4NH
I scoured the internet for the Edifier headphone case that someone mentioned but every case I found was too small now.

Please post a picture of the one that works best for you.
I buy lots of such cases for packing my gear. Unfortunately, the distributors rarely list the inner dimensions—outer dimensions are pretty useless.
I really like Amazon for letting me try different candidates till I find the one that works.
