Timeline wrote:Yes thanks for all the hard work indeed.
One question though. I see the green meters are back to blue.
Is there a version of xml available or could you tell me which line needs change to get back to green?
Hi Timeline!!
I think that original version came with meters in blue. I changed my mod to kind of turquoise blue...But I never change it to green... Maybe you've got confused and you are talking about Amplidood's .xml
Anyway...if you want meters in green I suggest to open Default_System.xml file and replace (if you are using my Mod) <TEXT name="kMeterActiveColor">53:203:238</TEXT>
with <TEXT name="kMeterActiveColor">117:255:75</TEXT>
hello , i really like your mod , i am doing my own mod , i will upload it here when it is done , but i have one question , how do i change , in the main window, the squuencer white and boring window, and the audio editor [ you know double click an audio , and the window that pops up is that one ] the color white, to a more grayish or blueish one? i know is something in the .xml, but is kind of hard to guess......
iPerformer, I really like your distinct look. It doesn't even look like DP anymore. I'm hoping that we can take what has been good fun and good practice and have MOTU pick up on this vibe to create a skin-able version of DP some day.
Just as an aside, yesterday I was serendipity surfing and stumbled upon a recording app. called "REAPER" whose interface is the most creative thing I've seen in a DAW GUI simply because it dares to step so far outside of the box. Have a look. If you never use this thing, the visit is definitely worthy of a musician's tourist attraction. There's a Mac version in beta.

iPerformer wrote:Wow! looks very cool!! All graphics are very well designed...Anyway ... apart from that I'm sure is nothing like DP!
Yeah, I'm thinking it's Goth-inspired. But it does make a visual statement in keeping with who it caters to ie. not the conservatory type. I'm pretty sure those using it love it for both its look and handling.

Reaper is no DP. But it is very interesting, consider the price. Also, it is getting updated faster than you can type the word "update". One nice thing about Reaper is that skinning is built in, so you can get many different skins for it with drastically different looks for different tastes. Personally I'd rather just see Motu pay attention to the kinds of changes being done here and fine tune their own GUI so that skinning is not really neccessary. For now, these hacks from a few people are taking care of it for me. In general I would prefer a bit darker colors from MOTU then this, right now, its generally too bright and Amplidood's version is a little bit too light for me still too, probably because he uses lower gamma settings. I actually use a slightly dimmer screen setting also, but it still is just a little bit on the light side for me. That much, I wish we could tweak a little bit. Oh well..

I've just looked at some of the Reaper skins. They're amazing. Good inspiration there, iP, if you're looking for more input.
I think what I like about that vibe is the playful attitude, despite what looks like some very serious work in the coding. So there's one instance in which one can have both professional features while taking a light hearted approach to what is, after all, just supposed to be "playing." I think the Monkster would agree.

Reaper has some cool colors, but it's another one of those cluttered looking DAWs, IMO.
THere is one really cool feature I noticed - on the MIDI editor, the names and numbers of the notes were displayed on the actual note - handy - I wonder what they'd do for really short notes though

I completely agree. It looks like some older versions of Cubase. I do like, however, how one of the skins made the channel strips the same color as the tracks, like Pro Tools can do. That would be amazing.
Dood, if anyone can do it, you da man . Actually it's probably something really easy for MOTU to do, or at least have the faders follow the color - of course then this would be 'ripping off' PT...

The mod looks GREAT!...excellent job. Is this mod absolutely safe?
What will happen when motu puts out updates....will the mod still work? (ex. 6.02/6.1)
Am i setting myself up for any conflicts/crashes that my be hard to trace?
thank you,
bruce
You must BELIEVE!!! JUST BELIEEEEEEVE!!!! [does not include S/H or duty/taxes]
[and follow your gut on this one cause you don't know if MOTU will purposely recode to "strike back" at dissidents]

If MOTU comes out with updates, these changes will not be in the update since they normally send a new executable, thus, you'd have to apply the changes to the next executable.
Of course, there is no way to tell if these changes would be compatible with a newer executable since MOTU could change/modify where and how the files are being read into DP. They could be adding more areas where local customization is available, or even more so, splitting out or fixing other things they meant to do better. For this reason, there is always a good chance that an update would be required to adjust something.
In terms of stability, while nothing FOR SURE could say that these changes would not effect that, from the general concept of how they work, nothing should change. We are not hacking DP per say, but changing configuration files to either use different numbers (so they use different colors) or provide different graphics. Again, if MOTU wrote some bad code and their are buffering issues where larger graphics overrun too small of buffers, again, these are the sorts of areas where issues could come into play. But, given these graphics are up all the time you'd hit those things sooner than later.
All in all, I feel it is pretty safe to use this. Just make a backup of your executable BEFORE you update it in case you do have an issue, it will be VERY EASY to go back to what MOTU provided!
