hello,
I setup an aggregrate device to have my Motu 8 pre and another Mackie 1620 ONYX mixer work as one unit. I had it work several times, but now it won't recognize the Mackie when i daisy chain it fw800 to my motu 8 pre. The 8 pre will be completely unrecognizable by my MBP when it's daisy chained, it changes over to a converter. But when i unplug the Mackie, it recognizes it again as an interface.
Not sure what i can do? I have tried various things to no avail.
help!?

try daisy chaining them the other way round. I used to aggregate an 896 and an 828 and it would only work with the 896 first. so i guess that's one thing to try.
further to that, how about trying FW400. sounds silly, but sometimes using loads of FW800 can mess things up a bit, like its a bit too much information for the machine to handle.

yeah, daisy channing them the other way is worth a shot. i'll mess with it when i go home tonight.
the only thing is about the FW400, the mackie or motu8pre only run FW800. I'm also thinking there is a possibility that a FW cable could be faulty.
I have another theory, that i updated my OSX to something newer, and now the new update is not letting the two units run together. Because they were running together before that..

make sure, if you've downloaded updates for OSX, that you've been on both MOTU and Mackie's websites and got the latest drivers
im surprised they only run 800? or do you mean 400? i would doubt they are 800 only, very few devices currently run FW800. is the socket D Shaped, or is it Square with a little tooth at the top?

(macbook pro ports)
the ports left to right are: kensington lock, usb2.0, FW400, FW800, phone, DVI
are you sure you have FW800 not FW400??

It is FW400. For some reason i always thought it was FW800. Being a newb i guess.
Yeah, my OSX has the latest update, so its all good to go there. The drivers for the mackie are up to date since its based on having hte most current OSX update and I just went to the MOTU site and its up to date as well.
I'm going to trouble shoot tonight
