Millennia vs Grace

Post by donbray »

I've been using (and loving) the MillenniaHV-3C. I record acoustic roots music, almost exclusively. I like the HVs so much I'm thinking of getting more. I've also heard great things about the Grace pres though, and wondered if any of you had any opinions as to how the two compare? Not that I expect any of you folks to have opinions :D
Thanks in advance

Hey Don... FYI, I fixed the spelling of Millennia just so people can locate it in searches. :) Not trying to be the spelling police, just keeping the search index useful.

I also got an HV-3C on the advice of a pro TV/Film friend whose opinion I respect greatly and I have never regretted it. The HV-3C is the greatest thing since sliced bread. My friend who turned me on to it said he wished after he got it that he had a whole rack of them and he hasn't used any of his other pres very much any more. I can't say how it compares with the Grace, but the Millennia is clean, clean, clean and for me it sounds great on everything I use it for. I'm even using it in combination with a Groove Tubes GT-66 tube mic to close mic my guitar cabinet and it sounds awesome with that combo. It is a GREAT preamp!!!

Thanks for fixing my spelling James, it's good to get it right.
I'm finding the same thing with the HVs I almost always go for them over my Focusrite ISA 428 which is a great pre also. I just wondered how the Grace compare because my understanding is that they're supposed to be going for the same clear unsullied sort of natural sound.
Thanks again

I'm not familiar with the Millennia, but I have heard good things about it. I have a two channel Grace and it is indeed a great preamp - very clean. I suspect these two are in the same class and at this level it's a matter of taste. But I've been wrong before.
