looking for more memory and new harddrive
hello everyone. I'm going to be adding two more GB's of memory to my computer and was wondering if anybody could recommend where to buy it and/or specific things I need to be aware of before buying it. Also, my drive is approaching 70% full, and as such, I'm looking for new drive as well. same questions apply for the drive. and also, is there any performance differences between an internal or external drive? thanks for the input. -phaser

Re: looking for more memory and new harddrive
I've had great luck with these guys for years on both hard drives & memory. Prices, service, product, all excellent.

Drive performance on the internal bus is better than firewire I think, depending on what all you've got going on your fire wire already.

btw, I currently have 2GB of memory. I have two seperate memory cards at 1GB a piece which are DDR2 SDRAM and each one has a speed of PC-2 4200U-444. I don't know if this info. is necessary, but I listed it anyway. -phaser

Stay A-WAY from Lacie drives if you're choosing an external route. They are trash.
I have a wiebetech I've been using for years with zero problems. Check it out here: http://www.wiebetech.com/products/toughtech.php

Re: looking for more memory and new harddrive
ebay for the memory...get the same stuff as you just mentioned above
regarding external drives....get a usb one as it wont be messing up your firewire bus (tho i've heard that the powermacs have two or three spearate fw busses so, i probably wouldn't worry.....ebay as well.....7200rpm should be fine
better yet, get an internal drive .......you'll be wanting a sata drive for your G5, they're quite easy to install (no cables needed, they just slot into any of the available bays

yeah, i was thinking the same thing regarding the firewire bus (especially since my audio interface is using firewire), but i think i'm going to go with an internal drive anyway. thanks for your time. -phaser
