I find that on my 867 mhz. powerbook w/640 ram that since I installed dp 4.52 that the performance has ground to a halt!!
I am on tour at the moment and using an mbox (yeugh) for writing in the hotel room etc. and protools LE 6.4 runs as fast as...but dp is a snail.
what's going on. Very tempted to defect to the dreaded PT full time even though the MIDI is crap.
By the way, I have been a DP user since 1.6 and performer before that.
Appreciate any response
Thanks

I'm having a similar problem, but on a 1 Ghz machine, one in which DP 4.12 ran like a champ (see my previous post on the details here):
I don't know what's wrong with DP 4.52, and my install disk doesn't have DP 4.5 to try to determine if that release runs better. I have to wonder if the Dynamic CPU feature is buggy....
MacPro5,1 2012, six core 2 x 3.06, 10.12.5, Digital Performer 9.13, 40 gb ram, 828mkIII, 2408 mkII, MTP AV, Logic Pro X 10.3.1, Studio One v 3.2, Pro Tools 12.7.1
Sorry you too are having problems in that situation.
I suggest you return to 4.5.
I think the application is simply too big for non dual processors now and MOTU should consider a DP-lite version specifically for laptops without DCPUM.
Yu may be able though to turn off beat detection and gain a bit more life.

Good luck to you.

Thanks Gary. I'll try turning off Beat Detection and see what happens. Unfortunately I can't install 4.5 because my install disk only has 4.52, so I'm hosed.
The sad thing is I can run as many tracks as I need with MachFive in garageband, but DP chokes with one single track. How sad is that?
I may have to use Logic until MOTU figures out how to tune DP for us mobile folks.

the longer my project runs the higher the cpu usage goes until it becomes impossible - this even though I am not adding any tracks/plugs! The bar is quite high even when it is not running which would suggest that the dynamic CPU feature is NOT working or at least that it degrades over time or there is a memory leak or...
I have to quit and start again about once an hour...

There may be some truth to that. My non-scientific observation has been that those users running 4.5 on dual-proc G5s have been experiencing fewer problems.
I'm not experienced with mobile DAW, but it seems that Ableton Live is the go-to app for such folks these days. Maybe that's an option outside of Logic (which I imagine could be as unwieldy as DP 4.5 on a laptop)
You might wish to look at Mackie's Tracktion for laptop work or perhaps Logic Express 7. Both appear to be more CPU friendly than DP 4.5. If you qualify for an education buy, Logic Express is only 149 and I believe Tracktion 2, to be released shortly, is already listing for 149 at some retailers (AudioMidi.com) and comes with some very nice plugs as well.

There is an earlier thread where someone notes that 10.3.8 has horribly compromised the performance of DP 4.x, and he is up and running by reverting to OS 10.3.4.
I suspect that there are a couple of issues. First is with the Dynamic CPU Management, which has seemed to throw my CPU way out kilter.
Second, I can buy that 10.3.8 has had an affect. but I don't have a copy of 10.3.4 so I can't verify it. The bottom line for me though is that G4 processors are still being sold in new machines, so developers need to make certain that apps have the capability of running on these machines. Perhaps MOTU can include the capability for the user to turn off non-essential capabilties. Or maybe MOTU and Apple need to tune their products.
I don't know what the answer is, but there aren't any G5 laptops, I'm dead in the water, so the choice is either switch apps, buy a G5, or move to a PC (yechh).

I've been messing with the trial version of Logic Express 7. All I can say is that it's major culture shock and completely unintuituve.

This tip did work. MachFive is still acting odd though, which is a different problem. But at least DP 4.52 is somewhat usuable.
Thanks for the tip.
