Mac Pro srtuggling with playback..Any suggestions?
Hi,
Any help would be appreciated.
Setting up a new MAc Pro Quad, 6 meg ram, running DP 5.13
Waves Diamond and 2 UAD-1e cards (both running well)
When I play files that originated in my Mac G5 2.7 in DP 4.61
they overload playback although they do better on the G5.
Message I get is "Audio playback has overloaded your computer playback. D.P. has detected an error in audio ,samples may have been dropped"
I know there are no damaged samples as I can still play the same file in DP 4.61 on the other computer.
The computer usage on the Mac Pro is low much lower than on the G5
My buffer is 2048.
This doesn't seem to happen with all the files I've played so far but seemingly on those with many tracks. On another song which was pushing the G5 the Mac pro was hardly registering in the performance window.
Thanks for any advice.

i just ignore that stupid overloaded processor thing - it goes off all the time and seems entirely worthless - my cpu meter shows almost no activity and it still goes off - started in version 5.
i just shut the stupid thing off.

kassonica,
Thanks. I hope 6 meg is enough. Too little do you think?
willheim,
Thanks. I would have shut it off but it shut me off first. The meter was peaking. I've still got some problems with the plkayback but it's getting manageeble, not too bad since I've only had this running for a day or so. Latest problem is beachball of doom. Not sure where that's at.
Appreciate your replies

I noticed you're running UADs. I have "Limit CPU Load" checked and the limit set to 99% in the UAD meter application. Somewhere along the line I discovered that this prevented CPU overloads in DP. I can't say for sure that it's your problem, but it's worth a try.
6 Gigs of RAM is working great for me. More would be good but 6 ain't bad.

Phil O,
I changed the setting from "limit" which was the default setting and it may have solved the problem. In any case thanks for directing my attention to the UAD's . I only had about 1/2 hour but the beachballs stopped too. More results tomorrow. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
