828mk3 Audio Console
Question? Would you not think that under the Audio Console when selecting the routing for Main Out that if you would select Analog 1-2 that the sound would come out the Analog 1-2 ports? Windows, and many of the simple applications like Windows Media Player, Zune, iTunes, and many of the initial Cakewalk Programs as Project 5 or Kinetic will reconize the Main Out but won't produce sound when re-routed to Analog 1-2 where my Monitors are tied to.
Yelp I do and programs see it as a 7:1 surround sound and don't know where to direct the audio. There is not even any deflection in the metering. My stand-alone inputs are solid with buss redirects on the outputs, but PC applications through the FW directing it to Analog 1-2 just aint making it. The sound does work as Windows beeps, bells and whistles are working, just applications are having the problem, that is anything less than Sonar 7 or Cubase. I just thought under Audio Console if you directed the Main Audio to Audio 1-2 and set your Windows Default to Mains Out then the sound would be heard as redirected by the Audio Console. I wish they would set up a simple Patch Matrix.
Thanks
Thanks
my understanding of the routing for mains is that the 'main out' stereo pair mirrors whichever output you choose in the motu audio console. thus routing windows to 'main out' when you have set the mains to mirror analogue 1+2 is infact routing to a bus that isnt in use. routing to 'analogue' however seems to send the mix to output 1+2, this then being mirrored by the 'main out' bus.
what os are you on, i just tried to play a movie in vista and that had no sound. i use xp because i cba with vistas bullsh••.
don't take any of this as concrete, im still learning on this interface too

Make sence, the routing for the Mains is backwards from what I thought if it Mirrors the selected out-put pair. I'll just have to pick up a set of TRS to XLR adapters and tie my Monitors to the Mains. Vista 64 Ultimate, and I've never had any problems with it, I build my machines around the operating system. Before that I ran XP Pro x64. A good portion of my music applications run 64 bit and can access my Extreme Quad Core processor. If I have any problems, I usally causes them, and try not to repeat the blunder. Thanks again for the help and Education

This unit is certainly not straight forward to set up. I can get win media player to send sound out the main outsok , but if I use analog outs 1-2 all I hear is a very faint bit of leakage and a high pitched sound. No luck yet getting a real signal out of them. I run Logic Platinum v5, but haven't yet been able to figure out how to get anything out of that except for the headphones mix. Logic has outputs 1-2, 3-4 etc as mains. Because i am not getting any proper signal from the 828 analogue I can't hear it from any of the outs except in the phones. Not sure how to redirect Logic main outs 1-2 to the motu main outs so I can at least hear something in my main monitors. Any ideas?
I guess this device will be great when I get it sussed, but so far it has been more difficult thamn any other interface I have used.

That's just twisted. Why pair the front Phones output with 1-2 outs on the rear. Some firmware programmer at MOTU is having a good laugh. I'll just wait for my xlr to trs adapters. If you select to use the MME option in the Audio console you can access any of the outputs directly, but the quality bites.

There are a few things I have scratched my head over with this device, but once I have overcome frustrations and figured things out it is actually pretty cool. Because I use an outboard mixing console etc there are Cuemix FX features in the motu I will probably never use, and would have preferred the software layout to bit a bit easier to figure out, and the outputs to make a bit more sense (or the manual to explain them more clearly) but otherwise it does it's job well.
Re: 828mk3 Audio Console
Cubase lists the outputs in the same order... except it says what the output is after the no.
ie 1- phones 1
3- analogue 1
4- analogue 2
does logic just have numbers? if so that must be damnnn confusing!
