DP 6.0 AU graphic bummers
Upgraded to dp6 a week ago and so far NOT so good. Tons of errors and crashes. Now I'm starting to find a bunch of graphic weirdness with a lot of my favorite AU plugs. First off, the graphic controls on all of the UAD-1 plugs are busted. Very big set back for me, especially since I have a lot of money invested in those cards and ALL of their amazing plugins.
Now i just found that none of the Arturia controls work either. I get a weird error every time a grab and move a control. "An exception was thrown while translating this error". huh??? Anyways, the stupid error has completely halted my creative flow on the current song I'm working on. Thus leaving me feeling very bummed.
I was really looking forward to this update, GUI facelift and all. Seems like all the UI graphics additions somehow messed up the AU UI graphics. I'm gonna have to revert back until all the AU shenanigans have been sussed out.
BTW, anybody know of any other AU GUI anomalies? Definitely would like to know so I can avoid anymore surprises.

I'm getting a weird one with Stylus, where it opens a ghost of the graphics window on the top left of the screen, which mostly disappears when clicked on..... still leaves a bit of messy graphic around the top. The main window acts as normal.
LiquidMix has an issue with controls that are haphazard...., but otherwise works from the remote
kind regards
Stephen

This issue was discussed at some length here right after the release of 6. The current workaround is to replace the MAS AU support wrapper from DP6 with the DP5.13 version (IIRC the 5.13 version is 1.61, the 6.0 version is 1.7). You will lose the ability to prerender VIs but OTOH your plugins will work.
This is a known issue acknowledged by MOTU, which they say they are working on. For more detail try a forum search.

why can they not publicise what is known aand help us help them?
this is an impasssioned plea from a loser in the information game
If I had a reliable source of information to go my year would have proceded a whole heap smoother....
kind of ironic that a company involved in producing sound is so mute...
or a moderated thread - or something?

Where has MOTU acknowledged this problem and recommended the work-around? I have not seen any public acknowledgement of the issue and I have not seen any public acknowledgement of the work-around. As a matter of fact, my understanding was that someone said MOTU did not recommend the work-around. This leaves us to fend for ourselves, not knowing if the work-around is a good fix, or could it possibly corrupt our data....mongoose wrote:This issue was discussed at some length here right after the release of 6. Several UNation members have posted replies from MOTU, either email or TechLink replies, stating that the UAD-1 issue is known and a fix is being worked on. They haven't taken out a magazine ad or anything, but they are responding to at least some of us on this issue.RecordingArts wrote:Where has MOTU acknowledged this problem and recommended the work-around? I did not say they have officially blessed the workaround, and I honestly do not care because it works for me.

But some better communicating companies who do feel an obligation to communicate with and keep their user base informed with such vital news (especially regarding a new major update it has put out), send out such notices to their users to let them know.
With this great board (thanks again James) and the amazing contributors here, MOTU doesn't need to support its users by keeping us advised and informed, since we do it ourselves.

well unicornation has it's use - how ever it is only hearsay.. and it's not a point reference - going thru frodo's epic number of posts may turn up some vital info - however you will be there for a while.....
it also requires a certain amount of filtering and commonsense - perhaps other members are not unbiased or even accurate!!! - ( axes grinding in the background )
a moderated known issues thread is what we need.... no baloney - just the facts mam!
example
DP 5 soundbite gain not always loaded correctly when using the load command... workaround - use copy and paste between sequences..
DP 5.12 quick time playback offset requires setting each time you open a project even tho it is displayed - workaround remember to set each time ....
Pitch bend cannot go beyond certain parameters

Everyone reading this forum knows that DP x.xx has it's issues. It's time to stop hiding and start a thread that comes clean. A "go to guide" for the quarks and "gotchas" about DP. I think most people that take the time to join and read thru this forum are DP advocates. No need for endless threads of bantering defenses. That doesn't do me a lick of squat. I feel that if there were a thread that, not only detailed DP's faults and weaknesses, but gave adequate work arounds, there would be way less endless ranting and more music making. I'd rather be creating music than spending hours and hours searching thru threads for an answer to a small DP problem that I can barely explain in "search" terms.

this is such a massive job tho - no wonder there are no volunteers.....
really this is part of MOTU's responsibility..
of course as far as motu says there are no problems with DP - but then again that's not true is it? all software has problems.... there are known issues and bug fixes posted on other software sites...
saying we can call in is not great - I'm in asia - so this is expensive - also there is a lack of clarity sometimes over the phone...
I was calling in over crash on save - the guy said upgrade to 5.13 - I said the qt playback offset doesn't work... he said - oh we know about that - and the topic dropped.... I guess I missed a beat - and didn't probe further... however the support guy attitude wasn't conducive and this is international dialling...
I had installed 5.13 long enough to ascertain that it didn't fix my issue - and it was immediately apparent that the qt offset was screwy.... I didn't spend too long there- i had a job to fix...
point being - I was nearly turned away from this otherwise excellent product... why?
