MIDI device problems
I have been through this a dozen times and I can't for the life of me figure out what is going on.
I have an Emu USB MIDI keyboard. It works perfectly fine, no problems in several other audio apps that I have tried (Logic, Mainstage, EnergyXT, etc).
When I try to use it in DP5, I can see that its listed in the audio/MIDI configuration screen. If I open MIDI monitor, it is there and I can see a green blinking light when I press keys on it. If I then try to create a MIDI track and try to use this MIDI device, its not available on the pulldown box for MIDI track input(i see only MIDI keys and IAC).
I have tried everything I can think of. I have tried autoconfigure MIDI, i have tried to remove it and add it again in audio/MIDI. I can't remember what else I tried. But it does not show up.
I also have a MOTU traveler recently and I am having the same problem with the MIDI port on that as well.
Anyone have any ideas what I am missing?

Hi
Did you configure your Audio MIDI Setup this way?
1. Double click Audio MIDI Setup to get it Open. ( In the Utilities )
2. Click MIDI Devices
3. Add Device
4. Double click new Device
5. Select proper manufacturer and version of your
MIDI keyboard. ( New Device ) You can also write device name there.
6. Click Apply
7. Connect the New Devise and Traveler Icon together by
dragging from connection arrows.
8. Restart computer.
Open DP.
It should work.
Here is a link for more Audio MIDI Setup info:

I hope this helps.

Yes, I tried all that. The only thing I didn't try is connecting the Traveler to the Emu, but I can't see the point in that, they are both MIDI input devices.
I also tried eliminating one or the other to only work with one at a time. Same problem remains.
NEither one is greyed out. They are both appearing in audio/MIDI setup active and ready. As I said, I can use them in other apps and even in DP, if I open the MIDI monitor and hit keys on the MIDI keyboard, the little green light in DP's MIDI monitor will blink, showing that its receiving the MIDI input from the device.
But for some unknown reason, the device name does not show up on the little popup list when I try to select an input MIDI device for a MIDI track.

Is the MIDI track assigned to the correct MIDI out and record enabled.

This one comes up every once in a while. MIDI devices don't show in the pull down unless you have multi-record enabled (at least in older versions of DP). Normally, DP will record any MIDI input into the record-enabled track.
Hope that is your 'fix'.

Yes, it is a tough one. Thanks for your help though. I tried remapping too, they don't show up there either.
I can see both MIDI input devices listed in the bundles MIDI page and I already tried creating a bundle that uses them as input, but they don't work either.
So DP is detecting my firewire and USB MIDI input devices in some places, but not in others.
Frustrating...

Just disable Multi Record and record-enable the MIDI track. It's a simple as that. If you don't know why you need Multi Record enabled, then you don't need Multi Record enabled.
The USB and FireWire MIDI devices don't appear as MIDI sources or destinations in DP because they appear to the system as MIDI interface devices. Create new device in AMS, and name it "ThisIsAnUnnecessarilyLongAndAnnoyingThread." Connect it to the Traveler icon. Then in DP, you'll be able to set the output of a MIDI track to ThisIsAnUnnecessarilyLongAndAnnoyingThread-1. Likewise, if Multi Record is enabled, you can choose ThisIsAnUnnecessarilyLongAndAnnoyingThread as the specific input device for a MIDI track.

Record enabling the track does get MIDI events routed into the track from my USB and firewire input devices, though the track input field is left blank and unable to select a specific interface to use, meaning its basically taking all MIDI events from all MIDI inputs in omni mode. At least I can work. THANKS.
Multi-record mode is supposed to allow me to select specifically which MIDI input device I want to use on a particular track so that I can in theory play two keyboards at the same time that are routed to two different tracks. Is that basically not functional with USB and firewire MIDI devices?

No, it's functional. But like I said, the OS detects MIDI devices connected directly to the computer by FireWire or USB as interface devices. So you have to add a "dummy" MIDI device in the AMS MIDI config and connect it to the driver-created "interface" device.dewdman42 wrote:Multi-record mode is supposed to allow me to select specifically which MIDI input device I want to use on a particular track so that I can in theory play two keyboards at the same time that are routed to two different tracks.
