Sometimes, only a picture can explain what's going on in DP

Post by Tripi »

So.......... it's not a sidebar, sure doesn't look like a consolidated window, definitely not a floating window, or a moveable window. But, this is what happens every time I open my event list in DP6. This is about to make me start getting really nuts. I hate to say it, but the more i use DP6, the more i'm rethinking whether it is really ready for primetime.

Yikes, tripi!!

Someone else posted a crash log citing HIToolkit and the QtGUI files being among the few involved in the crash thread.

The Human Interface Toolkit especially governs such rules as window placement and behavior-- how far left, how far right, etc. I have some issues with this in DP5, but I thought that DP6's new Cocoa graphics support would take care of that. Hmm.

The picts don't appear for me either (and neither does your avatar). But if you CTL-click on the blue question mark and select copy image address, then post that into a new browser address bar, you should see the disaster area...

Otherwise just wait and it will eventually show up.

Terrible. I'll try that and let you know tomorrow.

I just tried to recreate this with no luck.

Is this happening whenever you open event list in consolidated windows or is there a method to this madness :?

I have a similar problem w/ present setup: DP4.61 & G5 2x1.8 OS10.411.
Parts of the Tracks List window are drawn incorrectly: horizontal spacing is off, group of columns shifted L/R, items drawn under wrong column heading. Also horizontal +/- control in Trks window is "missing" - just a gray void there until I click on it. It's intermittant and will correct itself if I close/open window or send it to the dock. In pursuit of the source of the problem I upgraded the OS, DP, replaced video card, processor, & motherboard (warranty gamble paid off!). Still occurs occasionally. In finder/desktop, there was also an intermittant video anomaly or 2. I'm concluding that the mac's means of processing graphics/image code is inherently flawed somehow (on this machine, anyhow) and is clearly influenced by tides, moon phase, and windspeed. IOW, I've chosen to live with it until I replace this mac. Just wanted to say you're not alone with "phantom image" problems. Seems like DP tells the machine what to draw (video image), but the machine makes errors in presentation/output.

Reload the page once. They don't show up for me either on the first page load, but if I click "re-load" they will appear. Don't ask me why. :?:

It didn't appear for me even when I reloaded the page. But I Control-Click/Copied the address, and I'm going to see if it will appear when I post it.
This is TRIPI's picture, NOT MINE!

That's one serious mess. MOTU needs to see it, and fast, before they release 6.01. We sure don't need a graphic user interface created according to the MC Escher GUI guidelines.

Oh, you're in Asia? No WONDER DP doesn't work for you. It's imbued with "The Force," but the farther it gets from Massachusetts, the weaker The Force. Except for in Australia, where Monkey Man meditates daily to keep The Force strong. In Asia, The Force is weak, because Tibetan Monks are soaking up our The Force for tourist pictures, instead of generating it themselves.

Just kidding, of course. Martian, I do not know why you seem to have more problems than the rest of us, except that you're actually exploiting more aspects of DP than many of us. I've been on "DP vacation" ever since mine arrived, as I've been dealing with family matters (good ones) that have required all my attention for the past several weeks. Thus, my The Force has been sitting on the shelf mostly. I'll post more when I am running full speed again. I'm kind of excited and concerned at the same time to find out just how good/bad DP6 really is. So far, in my limited use of it, I've had mostly praise for it. Soon I'll find out if stressing it with more tracks causes more of the problems that you've been seeing.

Keep the posts coming. I can tell that you like DP and only want for it to work properly. I'm definitely listening to what you say, even if some of it seems almost impossible. We'll all get a consensus on what is universally working vs. where The Force starts getting kinda weak. ;)

I had a GUI problem where the track list button wasn't showing up. When I clicked where it was supposed to be, DP crashed. I solved it by trashing prefs. Worth a try?

the force is flowing in full force over there for you!

actuallY I will say I'm getting more and more pleased with 6...

seems quite reliabel - I still work with the view filter - oops sorry show active layer... but having a key stroke makes this fine .... saves are good fro me now - it has crashed a couple of times - on dragging clips in from audiofinder ( there's a guy that listens!! mind you I donate often)

it only crashes if I dont' filetr some automation...

please ask them to fix the soundbite names dumb truncation if you could email them in support of this I would be grateful.

I think I get more probs becasue I use it every gawdam day.. and it's so loud in here I take regular breaks!! steam comes out of ears is better than ringing ears eh?
