How exactly does pre-rendering work? I've been messing around with it and it seems to greatly reduce the CPU usage upon playback, but when I go to record a track it shuts off pre-rendering and loads the instruments up again and goes back into real-time. Does it only work on playback and not recording?
Thanks!

Re: Pre-rendering in DP6
I suspect if you replaced the MAS Audio bundle file with the one from DP 5, then rendering is probably disabled.MikeH wrote:How exactly does pre-rendering work? Well if you think about it, it can't really work on recording, because that would involve being able to predict what you haven't played yet.MikeH wrote:Does it only work on playback and not recording?

The theory is that since some of the data can be processed for playback ahead of time, it takes some strain off the CPU when running things in real time. With pre-rendering out of the way, the additional resources can be directed to running more plugins and instruments at once. Also, pre-rendering means that one no longer has to freeze instrument tracks before bouncing them.
However, some tweaks are needed. Perhaps it's not pre-rendering itself that needs the help, because there are some other graphics-related issues that seem to demand more resources than they should and cause DP6 to behave sluggishly.
FWIW-- I did my first test with EW PLAY Plat with pre-rendering turned off which resulted in some very encouraging numbers on one machine with instance count-- 3G MacPro, 8GB RAM-- all master keyswitch patches were locked and loaded. Testing continues, but when pre-rendering and the other bumps are ironed out, things will only get better.
