Thinking of buying 828 mk3.......some questions

Post by jamiefennessy »

Hi all...first post here...........I'm looking for a cheap dsp-based interface for playing live and just have a number of questions....
Firstly how are the drivers? I've heard mixed comments here but mainly positive.....will be using an intel macbook (not sure which one yet but any recommendations are welcome)

Secondly the routing requirements are as follows...

Guitar/Vox etc (INTO) Motu828 mk3 (SIGNAL IS SPLIT INTO TWO)

FIRST signal is dry and goes directly to ableton for looping (software monitoring off) ........

SECOND part of the signal is sent down its own channel within the 828mk3 and may be effected with onboard eq/comp etc........(this signal will be the one heard by the audience)

There will also be a THIRD signal .....an example of this would be.... the FIRST (dry) signal goes into ableton and i record a vocal loop.........the loop starts playing back and is sent to the same channel (on the 828) as the SECOND signal...(ie is now effected)

This, in effect, allows the 828 to be the hardware mixer allowing all live signals to pass regardless of whether the software decides to pack up, or not!

I know that the 828 is able to do all these three signals in isolation, but what i am sketchy about, is the ability of the 828 to split the input into two.
Many thanks
Jamie

You can do all this with the Cue Mix software. The Cue Mix software isn't super easy to use, but after a week, I got the hang of it. To get that third sound effected, I think you'll have to go optical out to optical in then back out of the main mix. The 828 really great, since it's a mixer and audio interface.

Firmware 1.06 fixes all the bugs. I'm rock solid on my Mac Pro.
