While the topic here is one to be serious no doubt…
I just can't let Shoosie's James Brown's "Lickin' stick" wonderful reference woven into his post go without giving a big high five.
Either…
a) no one cared to comment
b) the obscure reference didn't ring anyone's bell
c) I'm too old and I'm the only one who recognized it
Not that Shoosie's stock was anything but as high as possible what with the immense tips sheet , but this takes his stock to new stratospheric levels
for me.
Shoosie (hands down) gets my vote for Unicornation-ista of the year for me.
Dude, when can we meet ?
"… Git on up…… " Schweats

The binary behavior is gone. I think there are some issues with the bar graph value display on the AT not updating in realtime, even though the parameter IS changing on the plug-ins interface and in reality as well.tyronehowe wrote:Hi JamesJames Steele wrote:I know it does this on the mixing board, but not plug-ins I guess. I have an AlphaTrack that I use for plug-ins sometimes.
Have you tried your AlphaTrack in DP6? Is it working any better for plug-ins than it did in v5 please? Or do we still have the binary behaviour?
Thanks

Well if all the old heads can be serious for a moment, the inability to MIDI learn is a real problem with DP. I use other programs for audio (Live for example) and video performance (Modul8, VDMX) which have extensive MIDI learn capabilities which I use all the time.
I just spent a 1/2 day trying to get VI to be controlled by my MIDI controller and alas, can't be done in DP6. It is insulting for MOTU not to have their own VIs enabled! One can send NRPN messages to each parameter of the soft synths, but how hard is that?? A change controller plugin per parameter on each track?
The ease of use in DP6 (and I've been using DP since 4 and they all are about the same to me) is just too much clicking around for the worth...
I believe it is mistake to overlook the importance of MIDI learn.

another +1. MIDI learn is way over due for every aspect of dp. Might be time to learn a tip or two from the abelton peeps on this one.martian wrote:+ 1

Yes, MIDI and Automation control. MIDI learn (and save) for all of the MAS plugins. Why? So that you can use external knobs or faders to make adjustments to parameters of FX or VI plugins, and/or recording automation. So that you can interface with more than just the mouse for everything.
Also, the ability for DP to address a virtual MIDI port in the control surfaces dialogue, to allow Mackie Control automatic linkup to the tracks with any MIDI fader unit (and not just the $2000, take up the whole desk ones). You know, so that you can mix with faders. At least a keyboard shortcut for 'attach MIDI controller'. And MIDI control of track mutes, record enables, etc.
Also needed is MAS plugin and mixer control with Novation's Automap system which is good for setting up permanent control setups. The new Nocturn is great for controlling plugins, but as of yet, AU only in DP.
Most of the other DAW's have these features, and I think they would be great additions to the program, giving it a more progressive, open-ended, user-friendly feel.
