Do you do that often? Using an unknown project whose sound balance you're not familiar with, to "train your hears"?

Shouldn't that be done with projects, CDs, sounds, well... music, you're really familiar with so that your hears get acquainted with the new setup's balance?

Whenever i had to make bigger changes in my Control Room or my working environment, or whenever i'm hired to go to another studio do some work i always take my "old faithful" CDs with me.
I never balance with new sounds i've never heard before.

YES, but when you're moving from one space to another with limited time---sometimes that's just the way the cookie crumbles :) You learn, you make adjustments. As to that mix, I've re-mastered it based on what I now know. I'm glad I made the change, these monitors are easier for me to mix the kind of music I generally do.
Thank you,
Brad Lyons

I would love to take a crack at that - I'm a big soul fan (hey - I grew up in Detroit) and have the gear, but I don't really do this for a living. :-/

I think it would be a lot of fun to try though.

Sorry, too busy mixing the new Zeppelin and Van Halen albums. No time.

[I'm really, really really lying. Honestly.]
