Personally, I don't think it's "pop music" anymore, Bill – it's product.

Kind regards.

Good point. It's Diet Music: less taste, less substance, less soul, more profit. :?

And history repeats itself -- the lyrics to the song that topped Billboard when I was born has become relevant again:

"Now I'm a soldier, a lonely soldier
Away from home through no wish of my own
That's why I'm lonely, I'm Mr. Lonely
I wish that I could go back home"

100% agreement from me.

I thought all the new pop music this century was only on "American Idol."

Another aside, when you listen to oldies stations and hear music from the late 1980s that you don't even recognize, you know your prime went that-away.

Isn't late 80s when Euterpe, Polyhymnia and Terpsichore all died in a car crash?

"In the Year 2525"

Pretty freakin' cool in my opinion. In fact the first four birthdays I had there were some really cool tunes in the charts, a lot in my iTunes library already.

From the look of that list it was quite sucky in every decade, with a few exceptions.

"Sheila" by Tommy Roe...hadn't heard it, sounded like a Buddy Holly outtake.

"Dizzy", on the other hand, is a great piece of Bubblegum.

Probably my favourite #1 for my b'day (Aug 29-same as Charlie Parker & Michael Jackson  ) is Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey by Paul McCartney. "Ohh, they don't write 'em like that anymore, son... "

Bill O'C wrote:"Don't Let the Stars Get in Your Eyes" Perry Como.

According the web site I found this on, they didn't start weekly charts until 1955, so that was the #1 song for the year.

Regards,

Bill
The link James gave us led me to "Rock Around the Clock" Bill Haley & the Comets for '55. Oops, I just realized yours is probably for a different mm/dd.
"I Want You, I Need You, I Love You" Elvis, 7/25/56 for me.

Cool link, thanks, James.

No wonder the millennium has been a rough ride for me. Every #1 on my birthday (sep 14) sucks the big donkey d*ck. The 90's are not much better either. Where did all the great music go? I need another birthday? lets see what was #1 on 4-20
Macbook pro, 3 gigs of ram, osx 10.62, Dp 5.13, Live 8.1.2, Reason 4, Tc powercore Virus, Albino 3.02, proper ergonomic sitting posture, plenty of coffee (french press only with a pinch of cardamon added)
My dp inspired music.....
