What's with all these "Rejected" TechLinks?

Post by Bill O'C »

I'm finally starting to get responses to the nine TechLinks I submitted ten days ago.

Edit/Update: Now that I have been able to read them, they were "rejected" because they treating the Sonnix and Soundtoy plug-in problems as one issue apparently.

Regard,

Bill

I finally got a reply after twenty days. And I got numerous 'site error' messages when I tried
to access my tech link. After a few tries, it just magically 'worked'.

Same here. They wait 2 weeks to answer a techlink then you go to respond and the site is down.

I'm just going to take a few deep breaths for now--I can only get into the TechLink section very rarely with the MOTU website errors.

I followed the protocol for the TechLinks precisely, with detailed system specs and clear repro steps. All facts, with no tinge of discouragement or emotion.

I know I am projecting, but the only logical assumption for these rejections that I can think of is this: they may expect me to approach the plug-in vendors and correct the problem with them. These are popular, garden variety AUs that work perfectly with Logic and Ableton Live.

I've removed DP6 from my DAW. When it works, I'll come back to it. But I've had it with high handedness from software vendors. We are the customers. It is MOTU's responsibility to fix it.

For now it's back to Logic for writing, and for audio tracking and manipulation, Nuendo. If it's all right with James, I will continue to visit the off-topic section in the meantime.

Best regards to all,
Bill

Bill, stick around, bud. We'll see what 6.01 brings to the table, eh? I'm sure James would be happy for you to post in any section you like; you're a legitimate DP user, after all.

I'm saddened to hear of your experience. Perhaps the web site trouble MOTU's been having of late has something to do with it. I wouldn't expect MOTU to be as devious as your experience suggests; they'd at least say something to you, you'd think.

Hang in there, mate.

Thanks, Nicky. I don't plan to go anywhere. :) (I've been there, done that .) And I really like MOTU's software. I started on it in 1988, but lost track of it for 10 years later on when I switched to the PC. Actually, I have two licenses/upgrade paths. So, you're right-- I'm legit.

Heck no, I don't think there is anything devious about MOTU. I've dealt a number of the major music software publishers over the years, and I've worked with developers in business quite a bit.

Customers and developers tend to get polarized. The software developers get so sick of "operator error," imprecise/incomplete troubleshooting, and perceived "whining," that they tend to insulate themselves. They often put the onus of troubleshooting and bug-reporting on the customers, and on the developers' strict terms.

Apple won't let customers anywhere near their developers, and are 100% leakproof. Steinberg can be tough to deal with. Cakewalk, the Samplitude/Sequoia team at Magix, and Ableton have a much more open dialog with their customers (without revealing proprietary info, of course.).

I'm not trying to see the Wizard of Oz. And I'm not going to jump through hoops to use industry-leading plug-ins with DP6. I hope that MOTU, like the Doorman at Oz, says, " Well, why didn't you say so? Come on in!"

Regards,

Bill

They will, Bill. they just won't say anything though. LOL

Nicely stated, BTW. As I said, an update, perhaps even the first traditional .01 one, will likely ease your pain.

Glad you're not leaving us again; I'd hate to have to chase you down and beg for your return once more. Actually, that was kinda fun as you're a decent chap, but I'm nevertheless relieved that you're sparing me the effort this time.

As I said, hang in there bud.

I've had 3 or 4 tech links answered in the last 24 hours! The last one was re: the GUI and the red ball missing from the spectral thing.

"We are aware of this problem and will address it in the near future" or something like that...

Others similarly addressed. Progress - ain't it a wonderful thang! :)

But I still can rarely get through. I get a message about a TechLink, press the URL, log in, and then I get a page full of errors. Tried two computers and several browsers.

Mind you, I'm not complaining. Wait a minute...hell, yes, I am complaining, but the New Me realizes it's very minor in the scheme of things. Or so I'm told.

Yup, this summer as a matter of fact. :)

In all seriousness, I exaggerate a lot for effect. I was really ticked the first time I got in and saw "rejected" (I mean, who likes rejection?)

So now they've got problems with their web site--no big deal, really .

If common plug-ins don't work with DP6, they'll get the message from plenty of other people.

You know what the real problem is? The fact that consumers (particularly younger consumers) see buggy software as the norm (and I'm talking about the industry in general). It's that mediocrity beef that keeps coming up in various threads. It's a pet peeve of mine--kind of a curmudgeon-in-training thing.

I think I'll send them a message in a bottle.

Well, their site is pretty messed up or overloaded at the moment. Not good for business...
