Ultralite gets weird crackly pops
Seems like my Ultralite is getting info from the computer making these weird caracly pops whenever I open something outside my audio software, or even change a setting in MOTU Cuemix. The sounds read on the Ultralite 1-8 outs, but not Ins. Anyone got a clue?
that is one of the symptoms of an incompatible FW card.
output meters go crazy for about 30 secs and crackle.
playback is distorted unless volume is lowered almost all the way.
and 88.2 /96khz seem to work ok.
i dont know if that is what your problem is though.

Is there still no solution for this issue? I've got the same problem
with my Ultralite when it's connected to my G5 (Dual 2GHz/10.3.9)
while it is running smoothly with my Macbook Pro (Dual 2,2 GHz/
10.4.11).
I can't imagine that the simple answer is an "incompatible" Firewire
card, after all this is not any crap from anywhere but the one Apple
equipped as standard to its G5 machines. This *must* be a driver or
firmware issue.

I completely agree with you. The card has been working fine for months but now it doesnt work anymore.zeebie wrote: I can't imagine that the simple answer is an "incompatible" Firewire

MOTU does not have humans answer the phone, but an Ultralite; i only hear a few random bleeps. To my email they do not respond.
I have glitches, pops, breaks and the lovely no audio output. To top it all off, i have experienced EXTREMELY LOUD (sorry for the caps) noise output, far louder than the volume at that moment, which severely damaged my speakers which cost more than the Ultralite.
I have a MBP 17" with a TI chipset. Texas Instruments are the de facto standard for FW chipsets, so i would be very surprised if its the chipset that causes this.
Yet on my 13" MB with a Lucent FW Chipset, it works without any issues at all... Go figure. To me it seems that they have big problems programming drivers properly.
Oh man, save yourself the grief, demolish this card and get an RME instead.
Mine does this too from time to time. I have really only noticed it on 44.1 or 48khz settings. It reads something on the outputs. One of two things solves it for me and usually does not result in a re occurrence. Shut it off and turn it back on or exit DP and go back into it.
You might have a problem with the 4pin to 6pin converter. Does 4 pin have enough juice? If need be, use the adapter when using a 4pin firewire.
