Has anyone considered using this as a controller?
There has been an ad in Mix magazine for the Wacom Cintiq recently. Got me wondering how well it would work in a recording studio with DP. Aside from not being able to grab multiple faders at the same time it seems like it would be an excellent option to the Mackie Control and Euphonix surfaces.
What do you think?

I've considered it, but I've never been able to find any data on whether or not it would work, they have the 12" at the electronics place a few blocks away, dont have the cash though so it's just a thought for now, let me know if you get to physically try one, I am really curious.

well rather than pay $2000 for a fancy mouse .. haha
i'd say try i touch screen monitor first ..
a LOT cheaper ..
I saw a pic in Mix Magazine of a console made from a mitsubishi Flat sceen monitor. maybe someone has that issue .. its a cool project ...
there is also some research on multiple control / mouse points but its being used mainly for art right now.
i've seen video's of it. it shows a guy sort of "fingerpainting" on a computer monitor.
but yeah as soon as i can get a cintiq for under $500 .. i'm trying it too.

For that amount of money I'd save up a little more and get one of these...

Looks cool but ouch that's pricey! ($3000 US)Mr. Quimper wrote:For that amount of money I'd save up a little more and get one of these...

And for another $400 ($3400 US) you can get their other product "Dexter" which looks like something from Giordi's engineering console in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Jazzmutant says it'll work with Logic Pro (and Sonar, Cubase & Nuendo) so I presume it'll work with DP as well.
Thanks for the link Mr. Quimper. Love your avatar. Man there are some creative avatars in this forum; I get many chuckles from them . . .

Update on Jazzmutant Dexter: apparently it doesn't support DP. This from their user forum:

Posted: Wed Aug 08, 2007 4:34 pm Post subject: Pro Tools, Digital Performer, and Live
The three programs I use most are (in order)
1) Digital Performer
2) Pro Tools
3) Live
It seems like Dexter addresses none of these.
I recognize that coding for something like this is not easy, but it will be worth it.
Stating the obvious, the Pro Tools user base will be the most lucrative for Jazz Mutant. But there are a lot of serious users of DP and Live, as well!

DIGI DESIGN has the monopoly and they don't want you to get lemur ....

how did it go?
I'm starting to research what I will be buying next - any one used the lemur?
I think I want to get something literally flashy now that I've saved so much cash but getting dp going well... ( fingers crossed - just starting 1st full length in it ( already successfully completed a series of action sequences - but all under 6 mins. )
I'm pretty interested in the eucon MC mix - but want to get it supported in DP first - altho I was thinking that if DP didn't pan out in the next month I would get nuendo.. BUT
I feel a lot happier with DP6 - it's easier to do work when you aren't fighting DAW war...
I already have a wacom - which I seriously recommend - you should see my volume curves....
the cintiq is quite intrigueing - altho where to place it?
ergonmincs are key ..I'm suffering from the querty keyboard being a little too far away as I have my wacom in front of it - it's great for editing but typing suffers a bit.
if any one has any insights it'd be great - my local stores don't stock the euphonix - so cant even see a demo - which is a little offputting..

Tiger 10.4.9, CueMix FX, and not one hickup, used it live mixing a 5 piece band, dr, b, 2 gtr, key, 2 voc.
5 monitormixes, 2 subgroups stereo, 1 FOH mix.
Had to touch a lot, but worked.
I got the touchscreens 2nd hand cheap...
Take care

We have a Lemur at work for research purposes, and I cannot recommend it to DP users at this time due to its poor/buggy MIDI implementation. This, however, may have been fixed in recent patches, but we couldn't afford any more time on it so set it aside for awhile.
It is a neat concept though -- but also may be less desirable once touchpad tablet PC's become more common at the low end.
And to give credit to the vendor, they have been very helpful and willing to spend a lot of time with clients -- we simply don't have the time at our end to deal with it any further, and pretty much concluded separate from the MIDI bugs that it is not something that would work well as a front end to our embedded systems architectures.
That too could change over time though, so I must be careful not to sound as though my voice is authoritative on the utility of the Lemur.
Anyway, this should serve more as a caveat than a dismissal of the technology. Just be prepared to spend a lot of extra time beyond what you would do for a Wacom Intuos Tablet, for instance.

I only use my Wacom pad for drawing so I do not see the Wacom screen as that useful myself.

Tom, I think one of the ideas behind the Cintiq (sp?) is that it's a more direct connection from brain to hand to screen, so that you are more likely to work speedily and accurately. But I've never used one.
We have a couple of them in our Art Department -- I should ask them whether it really is their primary interface at this point or not.

Yes that could be, I did play with one once and it was more direct. I find for my self using a pen as a controller is not as easy as a track ball.
