896HD - 8pre unsinking...
I am running an HD96 with an 8pre hooked up by optical connection. (8pre optical out to 896HD optical in)
Occasionally and very randomly they will not totally sink up. The strange thing is I see levels coming into both units but the 896HD will stop showing the levels from the 8pre on the ADAT IN monitor levels.
Also, I use Sonar for recording and for some reason it see's all the inputs from both units yet no signal comes in from the 8pre inputs.
I reboot then it sometimes fixes itself but it's becoming annoying...
Any help would be much appreciated.
Peace, Ronnie

Sonar is going to see all the inputs until the next time ASIO profiles the available devices. Sonar only knows what the last known good configuration was.
I have an 8pre and I sync it to a 26 I/O and have similar issues once in a while...The manual for the 26 I/O says that I have to synce the it to what ever external device...I thought it would be the other way around but it works.
I dont think the clock in the 8pre is as good as the focusrite though. Unfortunately without a BNC on the 8pre your stuck with the ADAT sync method...Not really much you can do here...
Good luck

Thanks for the info but I am confused about the second paragraph:zara_drummer wrote:Sonar is going to see all the inputs until the next time ASIO profiles the available devices. Sonar only knows what the last known good configuration was.

If you could run that by me again that'd be awesome, thanks...

Sorry for being confusing there...
Basically it states that I have to synce the 26 I/O to the 8pre using the 8pre clock and NOT the 26 I/0 Clock.
I think this is the case for specifically for devices like the 8pre since it can only connect to the 26 I/O via ADAT.
I hope that helps...I may not be explaining it properly...all I know is that when I hooked them up, I could not synce them unless it was tooo the 8pre and not the otherway around.

MOTU and 8pre
Both units have firewire I/O, why not connect them together in a FW chain. Use the optical cable for Cuemix monitoring. That works good for me even with my 3 896HD's. That way I can monitor each input.
