How's the old saying go, Phil?

It is better to have been brutally honest and flamed than to not have been brutally honest at all?

And for the record the reason they recommend the Sub8 is because the A7's are $999 for a pair, it's hard to market a $1350 subwoofer to match those monitors because of the price point ya know? So, they recommend the Sub8 for $699---but reality is, the size of the sub is determined by the room. And hey Phil, glad she's in a good home! 8)

Thanks for all the great info. It sounds like everyone likes the A7's.

What about the JBL LSR4326? How does it compare to the Adam A7's?

The A7 is a more accurate monitor, but there are reasons where the LSR4300 series might make more sense---such as if you're in a place where th acoustics aren't good (the room-tuning in the LSR really does work, we helped JBL design that). I moved away from the ADAM's into LSR's, however I was using the S-series and the JBL's I have are the LSR6328's sooooo it's not really an apples to apples comparison v/s the A7's/4326's
Thank you,

One thing to keep in mind is that few consumers listen on speakers with ADAM-style HF drivers. (though I do recall liking the sound of the old Heil high-fi speaker series.) In my experience, the Dynaudios are excellent. Sub optional, but highly recommended. I always liked the Tannoy concentrics for their midrange representation and the way they translate to other monitors, but they seem to have fallen from favor somewhat as of late. A cheap lo-fi reference is the Avant Audio cubes.

I like to have several different monitor pairs to use while mixing, as every speaker seems to reveal different aspects of the mix. Of course, don't forget to treat your room, as even the best monitors will only sound so-so if the room stinks.

Although ADAMs seem to be very popular with many on this site, my feeling is in many users' opinions they place very close to Tannoys and Dynaudios. Figuratively three peas to a pod. Only one pea in iPod, but it gets to be capital. Huh?

Peas in a pod, eh?

If I order a "family bucket" meal deal, can you guys throw a handful of peas in for me?

or, just to confuse the situation more (!) try a pair of ProAc Studio 100's with a bryston (or similar) power amp. Not the cheapest solution out there, but in a small-ish room working on acoustic and classical music I think your mixes will thank you.

I have a pair of Adam P33a's and love them-- really enjoy working on them, but don't feel like I do my best mixes on them. The tweeters are so sensitive and the image is so big that certain details feel more obvious when you're working, and later they just aren't nearly as present (reverb trails, little stereo panning moments, etc). So mostly i stick with my proac's when mixing.

Most importantly-- get a pair of whatever you want and work on 'em for a week... that'll tell you what you need to know!

have fun.
