i have been running my traveler thru my macbook for about 6 or 8 months now. yesterday i tried to do a session when the dp loading screen said it couldnt find the hardware. the light on the traveler by the sample rate was blinking on 96k. i tried to restart to fix it, but now it wont recognize anything. my traveler, my 8pre, or my cannon dv camera. i am guessing i blew out the firewire port somehow.
does anyone know if i can get a pcmcia firewire card and have it back up and running easily? or should i send the computer back to apple to be repaired?
im not sure how it happened, as i am fairly cautious when it comes to the state of the equipment when turning it on, etc.
any help is appreciated.

You could try another FW lead. Also go to about this mac (top left hand corner of finder) click tell me more and you'll see firewire click on that with your devices plugged in and it may tell you more.

He has a MacBook, so those options would not work unfortunately. I'd find a local Mac repair center and have them look at it, there has been a history of firewire ports on MacBooks and MacBookPro's NOT working. However if it's been working all this time and now not working, that's a sure sign it could have fried.
Thank you,

This exact same thing happened to me with an Ultralite... It killed not one but 2 Macs. You need to not only replace the MOTU but you need a new logic board on your Mac. Apparently Macs have very low tolerance for "funny" voltages etc. coming from firewire device (especially powered FW devices) and the Ultralite fried 2 boards... yikes!
