Pitch Shifter can apply some latency

Post by edb »

Hello,

i too was very surprised how good the pitch shifter works. After trying the Transpose function in DP5 with both DSP-Modes i was totally disappointed when trying to pitch shift some strings, voice, bass and some other stuff.

DP´s own transpose function always did something that sounded, well... like crap. the only thing that worked almost ok was a single voice track.

After trying the Apple Pitch Shifter i applied it to all tracks that needed transposing and the result was very good. Ok sometimes you notice a little bit of strange formants on the strings, but overall it worked quite well!

A thing happend though. When you apply the plugin onto a track, it adds some latency. So somehow the latency compensation did not work correctly. Don´t know why. This was under 10.4.9. And DP 5.11 if i remember correctly.

By the way, i also like the Multiband COmpressor, when you reduce the pre-gain. And the matrix-reverb is also good.

Regards

Do you mean Elastic Audio? With it you can speed up a track with or without changing its pitch. And it works pretty great, especially if you Pre-Render it, which is the highest quality option. I'm not sure if their Pitch Shift plug-in has been improved to go with the Elastic, but I seem to have heard that it was...

Is there any solid documentation of the OSX AU plugins? I've searched for years and found only dated information. Is this yet another best kept secret?
