Once more, problems with 828 mk3 ...!

Post by RAYDEN »

First of all :) , Hi everybody ...! I Just Joined this forum & this is my first post ... I got a brand new 828 mk3 at the beginning of May but
that month i've been almost busy so i didn't use it very often ...However, everything seemed to work very fine BUT now :( i'm continuously experiencing a very annoying problem... i turn on the unit & start to work, (recording, playing live some vintage synthesizers plugged to analog inputs) and after a variable period of time (30 min, 1 hour, 40 min ... who knows? never the same....) every sound disappears, input & main out leds remain lightened and "fixed" (both the display & Cue mix panel) as if the audio signal still kept flowing(BUT i stop playing, so analog inputs should receive nothing!) and all the functions are disabled ... The only thing i can do is switching off the unit and re-switch on again...B.T.W., switching on immediately after the turning off, i have to wait almost 10 seconds before getting some "signal of life" from the unit ...the display finally start to light, cue mix is loaded(very slowly), i re-start working BUT after some minutes IT HAPPENS AGAIN ... and AGAIN AND AGAIN ... I Know it sounds ridiculous but perhaps the unit "suffers" beacause of excessive warming ??? I keep it in a 6 unit rack case, and there is an 828 mkII USB 2.0 just below the mk3 ... perhaps it makes the temperature raise too much ??? (BUt the older 828 mkII keep working very well...) My computer is a Mac Book Pro Inter Core 2 duo 2.33 Ghz, 2 GB RAM, MAC OSX 10.4.11 ... the only music Sw i use is Ableton Live 7.0.7 ... Anyway i experienced that kind of problem even in "stand alone mode" ... Yesterday i tried again: keep playing for 1 hour using the 828 mk3 as a simple live mixer ... the mac was turned off and the firewire cable wasn't plugged in ... NO problem! So plugged the firewire, turned on the mac and after 10-20 min ... BANG ! NoWay  ... If there's a warming problem, probably it would happen anyway, even if i didn't turn off the computer or ... who knows? I Can't accept it, anyway ... i planned to use the interface for live performances ... can You figure it ? ! Sorry for being so long and boring, i hope to het some suggestion ... or maybe i sould resign to send the unit back ...?
Thanks for Your patience ...
Bye

Try another FW port and another FW lead.

Have you tried ringing Motu for support?

Have you downloaded the new drivers that came out this week?
Creativity, some digital stuff and analogue things that go boom. crackle, bits of wood with strings on them that go twang

Please don't post in all bold text. I took the liberty of "fixing" that. Thanks.

Have you tried the latest firmware and driver updates? (1.06 and 1.48 respectively)? Like Night and Day now as far as my mk3 goes...

i have my mac options to sleep etc. turned off all my dashboard effects turned off etc. anything that might distract or redirect processing cycles from happening.

im sure youve ran disk permissions and that silly stuff. maybe try unplugging all cables power cords and whatever in case a gremlin resides in your power loop.
good luck
