PCIx 424 issue. Clock noise a tickin'... arrggg (update)

Post by glitch »

I just up'd my set-up from a G4 dual 800 (with the 324 card) to a G5 dual 1.8 (running a 424x card). I have an original 2408, a 2408 MkII and 2 ADATs (blackface).
I'm getting audio out thru the 2408s fine, but when recording in... I get signal and serious clock noise. Changed hardware set-up from PCI:Internal to PCI:ADAT, disconnected/re-connected everything... yada, yada... and still I'm getting clock noise.
I bought my PCIx 424 card used, so I don't have a manual. The only thing I haven't done is rearrange the cards (I have an extra video card... and thats all).
Someone told me (a very long time ago) about holding down 2 buttons when powering up the ADATs to fix clock noise... but that was many brain cells ago and (of course) not written down.
Any suggestions (other than lose the ADATs), or pointers would be grateful.
thx

edit:
6/27/08 uh... am I a dumbass? I don't need to connect the Sony 9 pin's if I'm not running the ADATs in record mode without using tapes in the bays (meaning, I'm just using them for the converters), do I?

Make sure that your sample rate is the same for all of your devices.

Checked that off... and rearranged cards. Also left ADATs out of the equation... still getting distorted /clicking audio.

I've had this several times and it was the card itself (not the 2408, the card). Returned it and got a replacement and it worked. My problem was not just on input though, so maybe this is something else.
