Mach 5

Post by 31flies »

I'll post this in the Mach 5 forum, too, but I thought you all might be able to help. Especially since it's Friday night and I'm screwed until Monday.

Just got it today. Also got two 500 GB external drives and managed to free up almost 50GB on my Powerbook hard drive.

Installer disc loads and initiates just fine but when I put the first of the four sound bank discs in the Mac spits them out. Tried disc one and disc two, both with the same result.

When I open DP Mach 5 is grayed out, can't get there, even though it obviously recognizes the installer disc was installed. You'd think that even if the sound banks aren't loading the sampling functions would be available.

But mostly my issue is with the PowerBook spitting the audio discs out at me.

Please help. I've been waiting almost a week for this thing!

hmmm don't have MachV but usually it's just a matter of running the installer (which you did) and then installing the sound libraries which involved telling it where they're going to go.... Did it ask for your iLok at any point? What was happening on screen when it spat the disks out?

I dunno about MachV, but PlugSoundPro is made (or programmed) by the same developers, and I believe the instruments are all stored in a single file with a ".ufs" extension. If I recall correctly, when installing PSP I was instructed to first install the sound library BEFORE actually running the PSP applcation and finding the sample "folder" (i.e. file).

Not sure if this information helps you in any way, but I thought I'd put it out there. Hope you get things working successfully soon. :-)

How 'bout the manual?

Hmmm... Apparently you didn't understand the problem. I'll try to simplify it.
Yeap, there it is, right there on page 17: "Insert the Soundbank DVD 1 and copy its entire contents anywhere to your hard drive." I think I've got a pretty good handle on how to insert a DVD into a drive, and yet, it spits it back out.

You might have a bad disk - have you tried it on another machine?

Another thing to try is your Hardware preferences (CDs & DVDs). Maybe try a setting of "do nothing" when a disk is inserted - at least until you load the samples (IF you can load the samples).

If you succeed in getting the disk to stay in the drive, run Disk Utility and see if you can mount the disk from there - or if it even shows up.

If all of the above fails, then you probably have a bad disk. It happens. My update disk to M5 1.2 was defective and would crash DP every time. Once I downloaded from the MOTU website, all was fine.

PITA, to be sure, but a call to MOTU on Monday may be in order. HINT: DO NOT go thru tech support on that as it will take forever to get thru. Call sales as you have not been able to complete your purchase. They should send you a new disk PRONTO!

Good luck.

I wasn't trying to offend you, I was trying to take the time to offer help when tech support was closed. You can keep your sarcasm to yourself, that won't go very far around here.

Some installations need to be done in a certain sequence and if you were trying to install sound libraries when it wanted to be authorized then you might a software issue that looks like a bad disk.... Sounds like you've got it handled.

I learned a long time ago on this site to read the applicable part of the manual 30 times before posting. But when it's simply a matter of inserting a disc it's almost like "press the power button to turn your computer on." There's really nothing more to inserting a disc than simply inserting it.

Now I will say this, I definitely have issues with my disc drive and I'm going to get it serviced soon even though I've always thought (since the problem started) that I caused the problem by deleting some part of some thing inadvertently. It will read factory CDs fine and install software but it won't recognize burnt CDRs and it won't complete a burn either, and now this problem with the sound bank CDs. I tried the second disc also and it won't load, this after the fact that the software disc seems to have loaded okay.

MIDI Life: does that problem sound at all familiar to you? Do you think I might have deleted something somewhere? If not, I'll have to wait and see what Mac says when I send it in.

Thanks for all the help guys!

Well, yes, I have experienced similar problems with bad disks and even dirty heads (the drives, not mine!) The first line of defense is to try the disk an another machine (Mac). Just be sure it has a DVD reading capability.

But as far as having deleted some system file, I don't think that would cause that type of problem.

Several people have had bad disks and needed to get them replaced, especially the sound banks.

however, I dunno why M5 won't start, but as I'm on a PC I can't give you anything to try.

hey 31 flies , your grey out problem could be your graphics card Machfive only runs with certain cards, it took me 3 months to get mine up and running and three graphics cards the asus nvidia en8500gt worked, where the ATI radeon 9600se and the sapphire radeon 3450hd didn`t work. also found out techlinks is the worse thing i`ve ever went through.
