I eliminated the ranking system. It was built into this board and I never used it before. It was based strictly on number of posts and after getting messages about making exceptions for various people, and making it more merit-based than based on number of posts, etc. I decided it created too much work for me and just disabled it.
This board is not a business for me. I can't create more work for myself here.

.
BTW, i forgot to mention that you should make a back-up copy of your DNS library (if you try this) before you mess with the grooves. Somehow it's too easy to overwrite them.

Hmm, the last two post are interesting.
Indeed not everything between Stylus RMX and DP is as rosy as one would initially think in the quantization department. Thanks James for bringing this up.
Also in reaction to Tomeaton's.... might I add...
When, in DP, one wishes to "capture a groove" from a Stylus pattern (performance) and consequently quantize another instrument on another track - say for instance a bass guitar - applying this newly created "Groove-Quantized" set of parameters to that bass track, on my machine will crash DP, instantly.
To recap:
1: In DP, create "groove quantize file" from a Stylus RMX pattern, naming and saving it in DP.
2: Onto another MIDI-track, onto another part, applying this saved "quantized groove" to that MIDI-part will crash DP.
It has done so since day one and I've never been able to figure out why this happens, and I've given up on it. I've thought long and deep and the only sane conclusion I could come up with is that the amount of "quantization-data" contained in the individual RMX patterns is so huge that either my computer or DP can't handle it - either that or DP and Stylus are not fully compatible. Perhaps I should contact Spectrasonics on this subject.
Maybe someone here has some insights into these crashes.
Any comment on this would be most welcome.
Cheers,
G.

Well I'm a little late to this thread, but in case anyone is still on this...
little off topic but...Anybody notice strange behaviour when dropping a RMX pattern onto a pre-existing sequence window MIDI track? Usually it won't take at all, or it will put the pattern in the MIDI track above (if there is one).
So I usually drag the pattern to the column to make a new track - that's great except that the pattern always goes to bar 1.
I also really wish the track would know it's supposed to be assigned as an RMX MIDI track (like protools does) just one more additional step.
And speaking of tricky RMX grooves...I once started a song with a Backbeat loop that was so in its own pocket I had to seriously muck up all my other grooves in order for it all to gel, just how it goes in order to sound organic. Though after adding an extra kick from Strike, another snare from EZDrummer and some hats from StormDrum I started to wonder why the hell I didn't get a real drummer to begin with! Because I'm a control freak?! I guess the DAW breeds a bit of that.

I've notice with dragging and dropping, you have to have good aim with the mouse. Also noticed, if you miss your MIDI track and try to drop it into an audio track, it'll crash DP 4.6.1 - at least it did a couple hours ago, but that was the first time that's happened. Never tried adding to the column to make a new track. I get my empty tracks ready first, so I can drop into whatever bar I want to.
Although I am sometimes envious of all the loops available in Logic, I love the way you can manipulate the Stylus loops once you get the MIDI into DP - something I suspect you can't do with Apple Loops.

Hmmm...maybe the DP 5.1 (soon to be 5.13) version I'm using is a little off on the ol' drag and drop. I have the latest RMX and I know my aim is true : )
On the whole I can live with the slight inconveniences.
btw, If you are going to start the RMX groove on bar 1, dragging on the column seems to be the way to go. Still have to assign the track though.
From what I can see apple loops are just audio files with metadata, and RMX loops are more like recycled loops - attached to a pretty powerful engine.duncan wrote:Although I am sometimes envious of all the loops available in Logic, I love the way you can manipulate the Stylus loops once you get the MIDI into DP - something I suspect you can't do with Apple Loops.
All I really know is that Stylus RMX is something that has had a tremendous impact on the way I compose. It's nice knowing I can always go to it and find something that will at least add to a track if not play a major part. Kind of like a reliable ol' chum.
